I believe that it's part of the overall redevelopment of Broughton, but won't be razed.

Thanks. It stinks though because it’s such a lousy building.

I guess it's in the eye of the beholder. Mid-Century enthusiasts probably love it.

As expected the council approved the Starland Village project. I believe this was the right call. The fact is this city is growing and these NIMBY's can't stop progress.
Quote:
Mayor Eddie DeLoach joined Aldermen Bill Durrence, Carol Bell, Julian Miller, Tony Thomas and John Hall in supporting the changes, while Aldermen Van Johnson, Brian Foster, and Estella Shabazz voted against the amendments.

“It will change that neighborhood, but I think it will change it for the better,” DeLoach said.

Touted as a “live, work, play” community, Foram Group’s $40 million Starland Village development consists of two five-story apartment complexes with more than 90 apartments, a four-story office building with a rooftop restaurant, and a 900-person capacity event venue inside a former church. In addition to retail space and artist studios, the developer is also proposing to build an automated, 160-space parking garage with a public rooftop park.

The approved amendments bump height limits from three to five stories, eliminate density restrictions and allow for 100 percent lot coverage. In addition, event venues with alcohol sales and multi-family residential complexes were added as permitted uses.

Still curious what an “automated parking garage” is and how that’s going to work, but otherwise agree this is an exciting project that’s going to transform that part of the city.
