I'm going to be moving back to Seattle soon, and a friend of mine has found a house for a few of us to live in near the NewHolly/Holly Park area. I only ever lived in north Seattle and Snohomish County, and I'm not all that familiar with Beacon Hill. I do know, though, that area isn't exactly the best part of Seattle (and also not the worst). What is crime like there? I'm mostly concerned about burglaries, but I'd also like to feel safe when I'm out running by myself (I'm a single 30-year-old woman).

Beacon Hill is one of the most diverse areas of Seattle, and one that has been known for high crime, at one time probably third only to Rainier Valley and White Center in that negative reputation. It's gotten better of late, and I would consider new Holly the best area of Beacon Hill. It's definitely not N Seattle or Snohomish County, though.

Just carry a small can of mace. Problem solved.

In all seriousness, I wouldn't worry about it if you jog in the daytime.

Nighttime is a different story.
