Why is it the states with the highest gas tax always have the shoddiest roads?
Because they are redirecting large amounts of the gas tax money to mass transit instead of using it where it was intended- on those roads.

The real problem is our unsustainable population growth, which is the fault of both parties. We could build more lanes possibly, but within 20 years the traffic would be just as bad again.

This is similar to "I could wash my car, but in 7 days it would be as dirty again".

I've been here for one year. I find it so strange that traffic backs up going into downtown Seattle in the morning AND in the afternoon. It's been explained to me that due to Seattle's hour glass figure AND because the Convention Center was built on top of the freeway, there is no way to widen & thereby add lanes in this area. In California, the Federal Gov't is paying to extend carpool (HOV) lanes & have them connect from freeway to freeway. They are essentially building new mini-freeways where the connectors meet. This after Jerry Brown's moratorium on new freeways from back in the '70's.

Have your heard of underground freeway tunnels?

The traffic problems are not due to liberals, doofy.

There are several factors:

1. Everyone wants to live here and the population is growing extremely quickly.
2. Downtown is very dense (very small land area).
3. Rent prices cause many/most people to have to live in a suburb and travel in.
4. Public transportation is very limited.

However...

I strongly believe the light rail projects, when completed in 2023, will significantly reduce large amounts of traffic coming in from Bellevue/Redmond/Kirkland and Lynnwood/Shoreline/Bothell. Add to that a toll on I-90 and I think traffic times will be much, much shorter.

Seattle currently has no real public transportation, but once those are all completed, it will be a giant leap forward.

Name-calling is not necessary. To name-call in trying to prove a point makes your argument weak.
