Meanwhile in Hockey Mad Vancouver Bc tomorrow's game vs Nashville is going for as low as 15 bucks on vividseats. Nashville is one of the best teams in the league.

That is rather exciting (the OT). I'm mostly about baseball, with an occasional Seahawks game. Only saw the Sonics once, with free tickets via Microsoft. Neither here nor there to me...19 years ago. For $125 (face value, tickets), though, they didn't seem to be all that.

But I'll see some Kraken games, for sure. I'm from Detroit, the Red Wings know a lot about both championships and the gutter. I figure an expansion team will spend plenty of time in the latter for awhile.

My concern is demolishing Key Arena or whatever they have planned. That area is already dodgy for traffic, though in the evenings maybe less-so. We'll see what plan they have, or come up with. I'd love to take a bus to a hockey game, as I do for both baseball and football right now: $3 each way, zero stress.

That area does need a facelift but I think that's what will happen with the rebuild.

Probably they based the Seahawks name on an Osprey bird.

Satan is working along with Stern to keep NBA ball out of Seattle. Adam Silver, current NBA Commissioner, is on orders to continue making things difficult for the Sonic's to get re-established. Research shows it's been a REAL struggle. Chris Hanson had a stadium paid for, land for it, and extra money to run the team and his proposal was shot down in flames, sadly.

I would rather we put our focus and devotion to the NHL. I will never forget the way the NBA treated us. The NHL in stark contrast has been great and welcoming all the way.

The Seahawk name is mentioned here in Wiki:

"In March 1975, John Thompson, former Executive Director of the NFL Management Council and a former Washington Huskies executive, was hired as the general manager of the new team. The name Seattle Seahawks ("Seahawk" is another name for Osprey) was selected on June 17, 1975 after a public naming contest which drew more than 20,000 entries and over 1,700 names.[citation needed]"

So there is no citation, which leads me to believe that this is subject to still not proven at the end of the day. I remember a contest (as mentioned) when I was just a Seattle high school kid in 1975. In fact I don't remember any high school involved...but perhaps there is a backstory here...

EDIT: Peninsula High School's nickname is "The Seahawks". But again, I can't find any reliable source that says this High School was responsible for the Hawk name. Prove me wrong!

The Seattle Passive Aggressives. The players will be extra polite to opposing teams but have a weird resentment and hostility bubbling beneath the surface. They’ll body check players constantly but apologize every time. And whenever a fight’s about to break out the coach will call a time out. They’ll greet the other team after games but trash talk them in the locker room.

Very clever. I enjoy your sense of irony and sarcasm combined into one post.

Of course, (as I posted earlier) these clever/city specific names are just for show and are fair on sites like this. But I will go back to this being an important marketing decision by our new NHL owners.

The name of this new franchise is not just a name...it backs up merchandise, advertising (billboards, tv, radio, and social media (gasp!). In fact it may be more important than ticket sales. It is the new reality. Merchandising, social media, tv/radio/ streaming all are obviously important here in 2018, and likely will even be moreso in 2021 when the first Puck is dropped at the new Seattle Center Coliseum.
