OK, when things go south, what's the timeline? How fast is the S going to HTF?
Let's say markets don't get their nightly delivery. By the next night shelves will be showing the signs. A second day without delivery - will people panic when shelves strart selling out of popular items. Will the media cause panic. By day three will a buying frenzy take place when people realize there is no more coming?
Or will premptive looting cause a cascade effect?
How long before people start rioting and attacking others for food?
When people realize its going south looting will begin immediately,gangs of thugs will be roaming the streets looking to take your stuff when they've looted all the stores, Ironically the safest place to be will be in some armed collective ,whether you call it a gang or a militia wont make much difference as law of the jungle will apply, those trying to survive alone wont last long..

How it goes down depends on how the evil people orchestrating the event want it to go down.
Do they want full scale meltdown? Or do they want to create the conditions that will cause people to accept a reorganization of the national government and emergency measures - similar to what happened in Germany in 1933? Are the banks going to be closed? Are accounts going to be seized or just disappear in a puff of hyperinflation?
Maybe the federal government will move to abolish the state governments to "save money". Maybe the feds will ask the UN to send in a big multinational peacekeeping force to help manage the "greatest humanitarian disaster" of all time.... a nation of 340 million people thrown into chaos.
Or is there going to be World War 3 to institute a wartime economy to give us a shot in the arm?
I don't think we have enough information to really know what's going to happen, because we ordinary folks don't get invited to the Bilderberg Meetings or the Trilateral Commission conferences. We're just peasants.
One thing I do know - it will be zombie apocalypse in the ciites.
We certainly are living in a very fragile position on this Earth,loose water/gas/electricity/money and its all over,As we are all living a global environment a superbug could spell our demise,We are very capable of destroying the very fragile atmosphere that keeps us all alive, a rogue asteroid of the right size could really do a number on Earths life forms. then theres the nuclear extermination we could perpetrate on ourselves.
Why do people always think "societal collapse" is going to result in some sort of massive reversion of civilization?
Why won't we merely be absorbed, like the ancient Greeks or Egyptians? ...Where their own society did indeed collapse, but for the most part, life itself continued on more or less as it always had, evolving and changing as the times did?
In two weeks after patient zero, the Zombie outbreak will be noted in every major city in the world. Services will be discontinued, stores will close. Looting begins. The US will invoke marshall law, discrimently executing infected and looters alike.
Within one week, the US government will collapse as Zombies overrun military and government redoubts and communication ceases. Anarchy exists in remaining towns.
After a month, the Zombie population numbers 200 million in the US. Survivors remain in small isolated and fortified settlements clinging on in primitive conditions, but able to work in groups to secure and clear infested areas.
After three months, the last of the survivalist nuts, realizing that they are isolated and alone in there "bunkers" and finding that there carefully prepared 3 year supply of canned beans is getting boring, and there .22 ammo useless, venture out...are attacked and become Zombies.
