I don't understand the appeal of Costco. The stores are crowded with older folks who seem to be buying large sizes/quantities, why? Who is retired and needs 54 mini muffins or 96 AAA batteries? Big ticket items seem to be targeted for one-upsmanship rather than practicality -- a gas grill with six burners, a 14-foot patio umbrella, etc.

Produce is better and cheaper at Sprouts, prices on electronics no different than Amazon. What am I missing?

I don't go often to Costco maybe once a year but there's one near my place that I started going to recently.

I usually like to buy snacks but last trip there I bought a big bag of french fries in olive oil and sea salt and they tasted horrible. Sourish aftertaste and I tossed it after one try.

Restaurant owners shop at Costco. Just because they are old doesn't mean they are retired.

French fries? Do you mean potato chips?

Why didn’t you return it if you go frequently enough?

Why would a restaurant owner waste time and money there? The prices on meat and produce are not that great and there is the hassle of moving the stuff. Our HOA buys stuff at Costco for parties they sponsor. Again I think they are deluded because the same stuff is available for less at many of the local supermarkets.

Restaurant owners don't buy meat and produce at Costco, they have contracts with suppliers, and the food is delivered to them.
