Divining Rod will not go in the Belmont as his trainer, Arnaud Delacour, stated 6 days ago that this horse would not like the distance.
Both of Mubtaahij's (about)1 3/16 mile races were at Meydan in the UAE.
I don't know if pedigree factors into your analysis but there are 9 runners entered that are bred for the distance. I'll leave it up to you to discover the horse that will have to exceed his inherited abilities in order to come home on top. BTW, any horse can run 1 1/2 miles. Some of them just take a little longer to do it.
Yes look at pedigree. As you may know Zenyatta won 19 in a row, lost the 2010 Breeder's Cup by less than a nose and then retired. One of her offspring may be headed to Belmont on an undercard race. One of them raced for the first time out in Ca. a few weeks ago. We took a stab at Cosmic and he finished dead last. So pedigree from one of the largest female horses ever with a huge stride who could rally from 15-20 lengths back to win did not help Cosmic One.
He may turn into a very nice horse going forward. We hope he does as does his sibling. The father is Tapit.
They can all run 1 3/4 too, arriving at the wire eventually. The two horses with the most documented success at 1 3/16 or farther look to be Pharoah and Mubtaahij. And if the latter won over there in the hot heat of the UAE where it might have been 95 degrees he may love a cool day in New York next week and 1 1/2 mile might suit him fine.
Mark Casse has decided against running Conquest Curlinate in the Belmont. He'll most likely run in the Queen's Plate at Woodbine, instead. Field down to 9 now.
Curlinate was a very long shot and his absence won't hand Pharoah the race. AP is training at Churchill Downs while the ones who may make a serious run are in Belmont getting used to the surface. Despite pedigree none have run a distance greater than the Derby. Mubtaahij has had more success at distances over 1 1/8 than the others and we like this horse as well as Frosted at this point in time.
Can AP win? yes.
Is AP guaranteed, pending some on track injury, to finish top 3.
Back up the truck on AP to show?

HA-HA, we have a winner!! Hard to believe it took nearly 2 weeks for someone to catch that. Couldn't let this thread slip by without the great Secretariat being mentioned. Moving on now, good luck to AP in the Belmont!

Since I am betting on Mubtaahij to win, I hope he loses.

Yep! No racing season should ever pass without acknowledging the greatness of Secretariat!
