Roosevelt, Grady, and Mitchell are also great elementary schools in great South Tampa neighborhoods.

When we got here everything was gone or horrible and started feeling desperate. Now that I know the area I do really like the Hyde Park and Palma Ceia areas. It still seems very hit or miss though one street from the next. Would you say your street is family friendly i.e. kids playing outside, riding bikes etc? Rentals are still very far and few between - except for some $3500 + way too high for us in Hyde Park. Having been here for awhile now can you recommend any good family sections affordable and nicer homes in Mabry and Gorrie school zones? Thank you!

How did Valrico turn out? We're looking to buy in April or May within the vicinity. Not wholly decided in Valrico, but we want our kids to attend Lithia Springs Elem. What did you like and didn't like?

Just curious - why Lithia Springs? There are better schools in the immediate area.

To be honest, that was the one recommended to us by several people we know who went there. I'm a little overwhelmed and not sure on how to go about the picking schools without first hand experience. Online ratings seem good but there isn't really a way to know which school will be a good fit. I'm still familiarizing myself about the ESE/Choice In options. I am open to any and all suggestions. Which schools do you suggest? I realize these threads are old but thank you for replying.

To be totally transparent, Lithia Springs was one of the schools I was responsible for when I worked for the school district, as were the ones mentioned below. I also live in the immediate area.

It is an "A" rated school, but my choice if I was going to be in the area would be Cimino, Alafia or one of the schools in the Fishhawk area.

Not to sound dumb, but when you all refer to "South Tampa" could you provide a zip code(s) that you would say falls into the ares you are referring? And any identifying public schools that fall into the area as well? thanks
