Hey all,

I will be moving down there with my family because of a job transfer. I've researched the best I could on city-data.com to get a feel of certain neighborhoods. I can afford up to $1200/mo for rent.

I will be working in the Tampa city limits.

So, out of these, which would you recommend and why?

Lithia
Brandon
Valrico
Lutz
Spring Hill

I appreciate any input to help me make a more informed decision.

Thanks!

What about commute time? What part of Tampa?

I would not suggest Spring Hill as it is a far commute plus there are some not so good areas.
Traffic is heavy during rush hour. It can take 45 min. to go 9 miles depending on the time of day and the route you take.

My choice; Brandon or Lutz....in the end I would Lutz and than the Pasco County side of it since it has lower property taxes and still close to everything. JMO!

Commute time I'd like to keep under 30 min. As for what part of Tampa is for debate because I don't know which areas of Tampa to steer clear of. I've only Google mapped areas that have decent houses that looked like the neighborhood was well kept and safe.

Thanks Annaegel.. That is what I was trying to ask. LOL

If you are working downtown and your hours are 8-5 then you will want to live in Brandon, S. Tampa, Seminole heights, Riverview, but if your hours are more flexible then you could can live in other areas and still make that a 30 min commute

Look into Northdale/Carrollwood.

$1200 on the good side of Lutz (Hillsborough County west of Dale Mabry) won't buy much, but an apartment.

Lithia - TOO Far You'd only have I-4 to commute...
Brandon - Ehh...
Valrico - Nah...
Lutz - Apartment or small 2 bdr house at best
Spring Hill - WAYYY too far...

Northdale, Carrollwood is where you'd want to be, however that means that you want to look on the west side of Dale Mabry between Fletcher and Northdale Blvd. On the east side is can be spotty, but there are nice patches, a RE would be able to sort that for you.

Algia is on the money for locations in Carrollwood/Northdale. Stay West of Dale Mabry!

Agreed on the Carrollwood and Seminole Heights recommendations. You mentioned a family so I imagine you're looking at schools, etc. Brandon's Bloomingdale area is a good area for families and I think you can find something within your price range. The commute will be below the 30 minute threshold depending on where in Tampa you're headed.
