Hi,
We are in our late 50's and 60's and looking to retire in the Tampa Bay area. My husband is retired military. We like to eat out a lot go to the movies and go to the theater and museams. We would like to know where is the best place to live for active seniors? We like to socialize and have friends. We live in Virginia and it is just to cold! We can pay up to 2-2500 dollars rent. We will be visiting again in May, so any suggestions will be appreciated. We are open to surrounding areas and the beach. My husband likes new updated living. thanks!

In Tampa, perhaps something around Bayshore Blvd and Hyde Park areas would work; tons of restaurants in SOHO, downtown has a little bit of culture but more arts than anything else thanks to the excellent performing arts center.

Have you considered St Pete? or St Pete Beach? Could get a nice condo on St Pete Beach in that price range if you like the water. The rec center there, and the beach in general, have things going on fairly regularly for seniors, and downtown St Pete is a short drive with several options for museums, galleries, restaurants, etc. Or of course living in and around downtown St Pete too, and then the beach becomes the close by option.

For your age group, budget and the amenities you are looking for, look further south in places like Punta Gorda,Naples,Sarasota.

Are you looking at over 55 communities or not? For what you are willing to pay in rent, why not buy and take advantage of a market that is on the upward swing?

We live in Apollo Beach - about 20 miles south of Tampa - on Tampa Bay in Mirabay:

MiraBay by Newland Communities | Waterfront Living | New Homes for Sale | Tampa, FL

Where are you planning to visit in May? Do you have a list of what you want, must have, won't accept?
