A great restaurant with one of the better well known wine cellars is Bern's Steakhouse

Lots of Great Wine shops and Eateries..there are quite a few bloggers and Boards out there dedicated to the Tampa area culinary arts...

My wine shops include Vintage Wines on Henderson Blvd, Charlies on Howard Ave, Wine Warehouse on Gandy. Theya re always have tastings and pairings. Of course there alre also the chains like Cork and Olive, Grape, ABC, and Total Wine too.

AS far as Eats...for Ethnic take a ride up Armenia Avenue just north of Columbus Blvd to just North of Waters Avenue...every ethnic cuisine available. Then there is "Little Cuba" area of Columbus Avenue from around Himes Ave east to Armenia Avenue in West Tampa. South Howard Avenue is one of those "restaurant rows"..with the like of Side Bern's, Mangrove's, Oasis, Ceviche, 717 South, Bern's which are some of my favs. Tampa institutions include Bern's, Malio's, Mise En Place, Ivarnone's, Donatello's, Bella's, Columbia, Collanade, Armani's to name a few. Ybor City is antoher enclave of amazing eateries including Columbia, Carmine's, Laughing Cat, Bernini's, Acropolis. Over in the Westshore area, Oystercatchers always serves up some of the great seafood.

In the little pocket neighborhoods throughout the city there are other great places(like Cellini's in Ballast Point neighborhood, CAfe Dufrain over in Harbour Island, Byblos in Palma Ceia neighborhood, Pane Rustica in Bayshore Beautiful neighborhood.....)

And that's only Tampa...there is alot of good eats across the Bay as well I have found...

Check out creativeloafing food and drink section.

I haven't been to Bern's in a long time, but I do remember the wine 'book' was about the size of War and Peace.. You should be able to find one or two to your liking.

you can also stray over to Pinellas to Park Shore Grill in St Pete and Pacific Rim and Ceviche (not sure if same one as Tampa) there are also two Colombia Restaurants here, not as pretty as the original, but the one at the Pier has spectacular views over the Bay. Guppys is a nice Beach Restaurant on Indian Rocks beach, along with Salt Rock Grill at Indian Shores, both always busy. Total Wine are great wine warehouses one on Dale Mabry and one on Park St in St Pete and then one at Countryside mall north Pinellas county.
They are huge and have a wine brochure that is about half an inch thick.

Zagats.com has a decent list of local restaurants. Probably some of the best local nouveau American cuisine is at Mise en Place on Kennedy Blvd near downtown Tampa. Of course there is also the Columbia in Ybor City that's famous for spanish food, 1905 salad and Flamenco dancers.

You'll go to Bern's and try it because everyone does. But I have to say, if you enjoy good wine and good food, I recommend Iavarone's HANDS DOWN. It has the best steak I've ever tried at a restaurant. Charlie's is also a good one.

Another recommendation, smaller but should be no less ignored: Ted Peters Smoked Fish House. Excellent.
