Auto Insurance (Tampa: homeowners insurance, deductible, low cost)

We were just quoted $2800 a year for our '03 Dodge Ram to insure it in Florida and we still have to insure our other car. We pay $1200 a year for both of our cars in NY. That is astronomical!! Why is it so high and does anyone have any suggestions on low cost car insurance in Florida? On a good note we have been quoted $1,089 a year for our homeowners insurance.

I got various quotes from Allstate, Statefarm, etc... but Amica was the lowest...
They are also very well respected and my Amica rate was 1/2 the rate quoted by AllState..

I heard that esurance writes affordable auto policies. And Geico must be doing well...they have commercials on every 15 minutes.

We have Amica, too, and have been with them for all 8 years we've been in FL. their homeowner's and auto insurance rates have always been the lowest, and I check periodically.

And, most important, their customer service is AMAZING. No talking gecko, of course, but still....

good luck finding anything reasonable. I pay 325 a month for an rx8. I am a 21 year old male, but that is still crazy. I Cant wait to leave here!

I would suggest calling around more to get better rates, we insured our Jeep and Lexus (both new vehicles) for $2400 annually in Tampa thru AIG. Allstate gives reasonable quotes as well. This is the same rate we pay in the midwest, but we had to call around a bit to find it.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I'm glad to know there are affordable rates. My husband has a clean driving record (as do I) so it just doesn't make sense to me. I'll continue to shop around.

My gosh that's a crazy amount for clean records. I pay $1600 year for a 01 Silverado (full coverage), 02 4Runner (full coverage) and 86 Conquest (basic coverage) through Amica. When i switched over, i saved $450 a year from what i had with The Hartford.

Having had moved to Florida in December, we switched our autos over and also was SHOCKED! We just have two clunkers (92 Mazda, 93 Accord) with just liability on and we used to pay less than $600 for six months. We started out paying $1300 but then dropped some our coverage amounts down and got it down to around $900. Our agent told us it was because Tampa had so many population (more people driving, more cars on the road, more accidents). We have Allstate and have had them for four years. I shopped Geico and Progressive after our Allstate quote and couldn't come up with any better. I just now tried Amica after seeing you people on here talk about it (never heard of it before!) as I thought it was it's own company but just realized it too is like Progressive where it researches other companies. It gave me Traveler's at the cheapest (only $20 cheaper in a six month period so we won't switch), but then Hartford, Liberty Mutual and Unitrin were all over $1,000 MORE for a six month period. Anyhow, we will stick to Allstate (though they can't write anymore policies in Florida now).

Geez, these Florida rates are unreal. We have an '05 Explorer with a $2000 deductible for collision and comprehensive and 100/300 liability, uninsured and underinsured motorist and we pay $298/yr. We also have a '96 Nissan Pickup with no collision and comprehensive and we pay $172 for that. Our homeowners insurance is $390/yr. We are in the far suburbs of Chicago.
