We need a state income tax about as much as we need to cover the state in toll roads.

Ever noticed how it's usually folks who aren't from here who move in and then decide that Texas needs an income tax?

I guess that "Will Texas become another California?" thread might actually come true at this rate. If Californians keep moving here and voting, they will vote in people who make policies similar to those in California.

Nope. I'm a long-time Texas resident who thinks we should have an income tax.

I just hope those of you who are opposed to a state income tax don't come back here in ten or twenty years whining about how unfair it is that you're trying to live on a fixed retirement income and you can't afford your property taxes.

I'm 66 going on 67 as I type. Not likely to happen.

Been a Texas resident since pre-Republic. (Yes, I Am older than dirt!) What does "long-time Texas resident" mean, exactly?

Wait, it says right here (and on your profile's zip code) that you live in New Jersey. So why are you saying "we" should have an income tax in reference to Texas?

I live in South Orange, and I would seriously consider it. I know of people from M/SO who have bought units. In fact, I thought I heard it was sold out. There's not a lot in the immediate vicinity, but it's very close to South Orange, West Orange, and Montclair.

You do realize that there was a lot of talk about states creating their own seperate debt? A state income won't be enough. It never is. After the state income tax, they will then further mortgage our future creating state dollar bills. This is so they can take away our guns, then our fishing poles, and so on.

Government is not supposed to do anything. The people of Texas do that. The government's job is to get out of the way doing as little as possible strutting like a rooster on occasion looking important.

Indeed. There are too many people out there willing to let the lightening loose that we have captured in a bottle.

Oooh, TexasHorseLady, girl detective! I spend half of the year in NJ and half in San Antonio, where my family moved in 1965 when I was a kid. Is that long enough for me to have an opinion? I've also owned a dozen or so properties in San Antonio and Austin over the years, so I have plenty of first-hand experience with Texas property taxes.
