Such as the Dynamos pro soccer arena that just broke ground on the East Side of downtown which will mark the 3rd pro sports arena built in DT Houston & 5th within a 7 mile radius!

By comparison Dallas has just 1, the AA Arena.

Houston has had a well respected arts/theater district in its downtown for quite some time. Dallas is just now catching up with that.

Houston also has better shopping & more retail in its downtown than Dallas. Sorry one luxury store your average person can't afford doesn't count.
What are the retail stores in downtown Houston other than Macy's?
I wouldn't want anymore sports arenas/stadiums in the downtown area. It would make traffic even worse. Keep it in the 'burbs! Neiman-Marcus has been a downtown retailer since 1907. I would rather have one major retail store than any at all.

That doesn't even count DT Houston's 7 mile long underground tunnel system with all of its retailers.

And that's a good thing? I am glad Dallas is trying to take the retail out of the tunnels. The tunnels sucks all the life out of the surface. Instead of having life on the surface, the tunnels makes the surface dead and dry. That's what happened in Dallas.

On the news they interviewed people and this was their response "why go to the surface when all the things we need is in the tunnels". When the business owners heard about the developers wanting them to move to the surface they refused.

100+ degree weather walking on scorching hot pavement or air conditioned downtown tunnels...hmmm...

I'm sure New Yorkers would die for some air conditioned tunnels right now...

Why should it matter? At the end of the day no one is going to the surface. It doesn't matter if the temps were in the 70s people would still be in the tunnels.

actually they do surface at the end of the day. they don't live down there ya know. And Houston has a lot more surface activity than you think. When people say that no one is on the streets they are just exaggerating because it is less than they would have thought.

anyway there is ton of street activity and a good chunk of the population does even know about the tunnels or how to access a tunnel.
