Dallas Convention Center could get $300M redo as business thrives

Quote:
Dallas is back as a convention destination, the Dallas Convention and Visitors Bureau said Friday at its annual meeting at Southern Methodist University.

So much so, the visitor's bureau wants to spend $300 million on the expansion and renovation of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in downtown Dallas, which could add new ballrooms and much-needed meeting space, said Phillip Jones, president and CEO of the visitor's bureau.
Quote:
Some of those successes include the bureau booking 31 citywide conventions with 2,500 room nights booked at hotels, the largest number in Dallas history. The convention business for the fiscal year brought in a total of $1.6 billion in economic impact, the CVB said.

They should spend 400million. The difference is that the Dallas convention center is already humongous (the best and largest in Tx).
So spending 300 million dollars on expanding it even more is epic.

But it's still gonna be smaller than our Convention Center. San Antonio is building another section so it can tear down the original portion....

The cvent link you provided a page ago says otherwise and that the GRB is the largest in TX (~995K sq. ft. vs. ~725K sq. ft.)

That's how much continuous exhibit space that's in The KBH, it has over 1 million sq ft of total exhibit space.

I can't find any good solid sources for this information, particularly for the KBH.

If you have one it would be much appreciated.

Houston is dropping hundreds of millions on its convention center too..

Architect thinks big about the convention center plaza - Houston Chronicle

along with the 335 million dollar Marriott Marquis hotel and the new 15 story hotel on top of the Houston First office highrise/GRB parking garage.

I missed this... wow. This is great.

If this works out as planned, this will completely transform that piece of downtown. I'd be interested to see how the integrate the reconfiguration of Avenida De Las Americas.

Good stuff.
