I don't see that. I have not met more than a handful of Californians in Central Texas. And you can find plenty of smoky bars.

You can't find the smokey bars inside of Austin. You CAN outside of it. I've met more than a handful of Californians.

Wrong. Mexico declared it's independence from Spain in 1810 and Texas officially became independent from Mexico in 1836 so it was part of Mexico for 26 years and would still be part of Mexico today if it was not for the expansionist agenda of the union back then. Don't get me wrong, I am glad that Texas is part of the US but to say that it was in Mexico's hands for only 15 years is erronous since it was for 26 years and the anglo immigrants back there were welcomed with open arms. Having said that, I do believe that we must do better to enforce our southern border with more border patrol, fence, technology.

And, what will happen if the trends given by these stats continue, and Texas is dominated by a majority minority that is unskilled, and a net drain on state resources?

In other words, what do you think of this blog entry? Do you think that the rankings have changed that much since '07, or is Texas even worse off?

Bay Area Houston: It's official. Texas worst place to live in US.

In the comments, the consensus is that if you take away the uneducated minority/aliens, you automatically jump Texas into the top 10 state tier.....
my question...is Texas, in that case, doomed demographically? Can they really do anything to ameliorate an uneducated horde, unwilling to assimilate
let alone withstand education? And what control do cities like Austin have per the masses of new residents from out-of-state, especially California,
who are filling a state that is fiscally imploding, burdening the infrastructure themselves in a reverse "Okie" rush?
What control does Austin have per outsiders swarming into their state, alien and otherwise?
Dude, people can make one of those stat list to say anything. Tomorrow Texas will be the best place to survive a recession in, then it will be the place hit hardest by the recession, then it will be the place for people with the biggest eyelids. All those stat things are BS.
