50/50 chance at being in Hartford this summer.

And I don't appreciate my quote being changed.

Austitude has to do with the "holier-than-thou" attitude as far as looking down on or trash-talking about the other Texas cities. It is probably a product of the "top ten" lists and other hype going to their heads, along with a combination of ignorance/inexperience of the other places. I've lived in both Austin and Houston, so I know exactly what it is.
Dallitude is another thing altogether, more pertaining to materialism.

That being said, as far as City-Data, there are always those posters who had a bad experience in a city and then get on here to trash-talk it. This seems to happen with almost every city at some point. These terms don't really apply to those posters. And the poster who called Austin a dump was probably just a reaction to your earlier, insulting post about Houston/Dallas.
What a joke.

Someone from Dallas/Houston says a city sucks and its JUST called "trash-talk", but if they are from Austin and "trash-talk", they are suffering from Austitude.

That just sounds completely stupid. I grew up in Austin, went to school in San Antonio, and now live in Katy and I have no idea what youre talking about.

Also, where the hell did I insult Houston/Dallas? Did you confuse me for someone else?

That's not what I was saying... I was taken aback because it looked like my quote got changed up. But anyway, yes, I should have clarified I was referring to post #48, not yours.

I'd hate living in New England personally and would love living in Texas. Be prepared for some bitter winters, especially if you just moved there from Texas.

I've been to Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Vermont. It's alright but it's not my bag. I like the forests I guess. Maine would be cool during the summer, but miserable during the winter.

Winter is good.

I loathe being able to walk around in shorts and a t-shirt in January.

I'm an Aggie and I like Austin. I also knew quite a few people at A&M from Austin.

But I wouldn't want to live there... there's just not much of a job market and Dallas has a lot more amenities. That and there are a ton of UT graduates who want to stay in Austin so the jobs are more competitive than they otherwise would be.

No. Maybe the poster actually uses rational thought to come to his conclusions.
No, he's loony because he tries to stereotype vast numbers of individuals into these categories he hates (failing to see them as individuals) in an attempt to one-up someone in some Internet conversation. Which is strange because I don't hold much stock in Internet conversations. With me, personally, I may a conflicting response to someone here and there but I have other things going on in my life to warrant spending so much time getting into a "flame war."

As far as his motivation for that, it's anyone's guess. Plus his messages come across as anything but rational thought.

And as far as a communist worshipping herd in Austin, I knew plenty of Aggies from Austin while at Texas A&M who were anything but a communist worshiping herd.

You and epstein ought to exchange phone numbers or something because you two have a lot in common.

We are talking about cultures not individuals.

Dallas culture is far more independent and big city focused.

Austin culture is blatantly communist and hick culture.

Well, from WAY back there (after scrolling past the extremely predictable posts by eepstein and artsyguy), this:

No, it wasn't. I was there when Red came up with the phrase and had the first bumper stickers printed at his own expense and handed them out for free, LONG before it was commercialized (I even had one for quite some time and it's likely still around here somewhere). It was NOT about promoting local business - that came along later when a couple of punks, over his protests, trademarked the phrase and commercialized it. (And I doubt very much that they were all about local business OR keeping Austin weird, if you come right down to it.)

Anyone who wants to know what it's really all about can find out here on Red's website.
