We have a lot of physics guys here, but people tend to get relaxed and use the terms "force" and "energy" in ways that aren't technically correct.
In an academic setting, like you said, things needs to be technically correct for the learning process.
I just had to stop and fix it hahahah...there are a lot of things in common talk that are very different in physics.
For example, in class, there is no such thing as deceleration, it's like the four letter word in physics. When things increase speed or decrease speed, they are accelerating. Even changing direction is still an acceleration since acceleration is a vector quantity (amount and direction) so going in a circle with your car set on cruise control is still acceleration.
That's true however it took a certain amount of energy to achieve that speed. So all of the energy exerted to bring the car (accelerate) up to light speed (relative to the wall) is instantly transferred to the brick wall assuming an inelastic(?) collision. Ok, I've deviated from the topic enough!

I've done it many times, coast to coast. Nothing like running 75-80 and getting over 50mpg. Put good tires, and struts on those cars, along with the "gt" anti sway bars, actually made a very good little car that rode ok for a little car.

I've actually driven a Ford Fusion, the regular version which was already fuel efficient, into West Texas actually and it wasn't really out of place. The small towns were very friendly there, and had the best country fried steak in the world for pretty cheap. I live in Baltimore and do not see many Priuses at least not in the parts of town I live, go to school, work or run errands in. They are mostly concentrated in certain areas and some wealthy suburbs that I rarely visit anyways. I heard a joke once that a "hybrid" is the 3rd choice for a new downtown yuppie or "urban pioneer" after his first choice, public transportation resulted in a mugging and his second choice, a bike, was stolen Don't get me wrong I love this area just not the inner city.
This is such a dumb statement that I am appalled you posted it in a forum.
I don't think it can be argued that a Prius falls under the category of a "statement-making" car, just like a Hummer,Viper,Murcielago etc. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.
Prius says "I'm left-wing, educated, believe in environmentalism, etc"
Hummer says: "I'm probably right-wing, somewhat successful, environmentalism isn't very important to me"
Viper says: "I'm very well off, proud to be American, love speed."
Lamborghini Murcielago/Diablo says: "I've made it to the top. I have status. I am driving the ultimate, extremely unique and beautiful, car on the road."
Keep in mind, these are generalizations and there are many owners who are outliers and don't fit into this pattern. I've owned a Viper, had many other sports cars, and have met a fair share of both Prius and Hummer drivers. This is just what I think of when I see these cars, not necessarily the rule

Have no idea why you would associate a Prius with someone who is necessarily educated. Its usually just average, white, left wing "limousine liberals" that buy them up and slap an Obama sticker on the back.
Most of them have fallen prey to the Prius marketing scheme... they are just another demographic that has been manipulated into being a cash cow consumer. Most of these owners think that the Prius is God's... errr excuse me... the self-aware cosmos' gift to mankind. That has been drilled into their brains through the cult following.
Relatively speaking the Prius is a pseudo environmentally friendly vehicle at best. However because it has this overwhelming aura of being "green", peaceful, friendly, etc... consumers don't even bother delving into the nitty gritty facts or even try to crunch any numbers to see what all the hype is about. They just buy it.
As for your assessment on Hummers. I wholeheartedly agree. Every time I see an H2 I really can't fathom why someone needs that as a daily driver. It is far too excessive for anything I can think of. They are usually poorly skilled drivers, they drive too fast, too aggressively and they usually turn out to be some suburbanite soccer mom in gucci sunglasses on her cell phone.
Actuly, you want to make a statement with your car, put lights on a Comp Eliminator Roadster and drive it around. The Beautiful music from the exhaust, runs 7's in the 1/4, and who gives a rats rear about the enviromentalist fraud nonsense?
