Hi everyone, is Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express better? Are they about the same in your opinion?Which do you prefer?I have stayed at both and I cant tell much of a difference.I think Hampton is owned by Hilton.I am just a little confused on which one is better.Feel free to share your experiences with these two brands. They both seem consistent to me.

Similar. Hampton Inn seems to be the most consistent so I try to go with them.

I stay at a lot of Holiday Inn Express on the West Coast and South West (Business Travel). Main reason is they consistently have meeting rooms available too.

Always clean and pleasant.

I'd say they are pretty even. We stay at HI express mostly because we are IHG members and get points for staying. If you are an infrequent traveler and don't go for the points, I'd go with whichever is more convenient.

Same here. I find it's easier to get award nights with IHG (Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, etc.) than it is with Hilton family hotels (Hilton, Hampton Inn, etc.) so tend to prefer the IHG side.

While both brands tend to be pretty consistent, I'll also check reviews and review web sites- throw out the top 20% and bottom 20% of reviews, and the middle 60% of recent reviews tend to be pretty reliable reflections of a property's current status.

I travel for work a fair amount to random places in the country (i.e. plenty of small to mid-size cities) and typically go for the Hampton Inn if available. I find them to be consistently better than most any other chains including HIE. With that said I have stayed in several HIE's that were perfectly fine with zero issues.

I caveat all the above by saying to read views on TripAdvisor or any of the booking sites before plunking down your cash. A coworker of mine booked us a Hampton Inn in Marietta (or maybe it was Alpharetta) and it was HORRIBLE. But, in his defense, a Hampton is so predictable that he didn't bother with the reviews and this one time we were stuck! So, I'd be fine with either based on reading a selection of reviews to help make a little more objective booking for that particular city you're in.

We've used Holiday Inn Express more than Hampton when our preferred hotel chain (Marriott) isn't available in a city while we're traveling. I've found HIE to be more versatile--you can usually call them up day of to get something with no worries about availability. All of my Hampton Inn stays were more of the planned sort (I think it was only two or three, though), and usually the planning wasn't done by use but by members of the family who were Hilton members instead of Marriott members like we are. So I don't know how well they do at last minute bookings.

I prefer the beds at HIE, the overall feel, the customer service, and the continental breakfast (food AND eating area) to Hampton Inn. Last time we compared, I believe that their rates were better for military when comparing percentage of discount from regular room prices, and that's important to us because it shaves off some $$ during travel. At the same time, that has never caused us to loose quality, which I think HIE has a lot of for the price.

To me, they're very similar in quality. But where we've visited, I've stuck with HIExpress because Hampton has cost a good bit higher - like $30 to $50 per night higher! Used to be HIExpress was higher. The location is not better, the room is not better. So HIExpress it is.

One thing HIE impresses me every time is how impossibly thin the bacon strips are cut.

I'll admit a soft spot for what we call the Holiday Inn Express 3D pancake printer and the cinnamon rolls are yummy, if evil from a nutritional standpoint.
