I find first world America more dangerous than many third world countries.
At least in America, a group of guards don't search my vehicle for bombs before I pull up to the entrance of the hotel where I'm staying, as did guards at the Hyderabad hotel where I traveled on business.
My wife and I have visited Philippines. Must say they are the nicest folks on the planet! But I stood out like a sore thumb there. I'm 6'4" and blondish and literally every 5 minutes a passer by would say "Hey Joe." It was cute at first but after the first hour, it was like ok, enough is enough. Not sure if I'd classify that as being hassled but I was thinking "why won't they just ignore me like everybody does in Seattle?" Haha....

The last large sports event I went to in America they put people through metal detectors and searched bags.
The last large sports event I went to in a third world country (Thailand) they didn't.
Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic was the worst place we ever went. The locals thought that by yelling in your ear they could get you to buy something. Never went there again.

They'rre searching bags to make sure you're not bringing in an outside Snickers bar. The metal detector is a fake wand, just a front.
