I don't know how accurate this is, but it makes for an o po optimistic read.

That's interesting. Implies that being on a plane is a bit safer than NOT being on a plane - which may be true.

Right now, your odds of being infected (day to day) are about 1 in 2000.

Obviously, lots of variables, both situations - but still - taken to its logical conclusion - if we wanted to put a big dent in COVID, then we should all fly - alot - and soon.

Why would a plane be "more safe" than land? Two reasons are obvious: Masks are near-universal. Air is purified.

Two things that sort of fly in the face of advice - large gatherings and 6 feet apart.

Anyway - it's interesting.

I've been reading that too, on different sources.

Thank God! We had another trip to Europe planned for this winter, before the pandemic set in.

But our experience returning from Europe a month ago, was not bad at all. Mostly empty airport, everyone masked and trying to respect distance much as possible. Masks for 24 hours but we got through it and looking forward to the next trip. 4 months and counting...

The air filtration systems are so robust and mostly you are not face-to-face with the strangers around you.

I did NOT want to be the first in line to board an airplane but I'm encouraged by the lack of stories about COVID transmission on planes. The media generate hysterical headlines any chance they can. ONE asymptomatic person who used a gym and later tested positive for COVID-19 translated to "Over 200 people may have been exposed to COVID-19..." because there were 205 people in and out of that gym over a 6-hour period, including times before and after the infected person was actually there. No follow-up stories I could find, which tells me no one else was affected.

I'd expect the same type of hysteria if people om a plane were exposed.

Fingers crossed- I really want to start traveling again and the car won't get me to Europe!

I will not travel by airplane until an effective vaccine exists.

I saw that information in another article. Although plane travel seems to be lower risk for catching COVID19 they still say that in general plane travel is helping to spread COVID19 globally. In the article, I read they also recommend wearing a face shield besides a mask for air travel.

Yep, we travel for work here, lots of folks flying. I agree it is a good way to transmit it from one area to another - that is how this all started, afterall - but your individual risk of catching it on a plane is no greater than anywhere else.

If you won't fly, then I assume you also aren't going to work, to church, shopping, etc. That's ok - I'm just making the point - the risk is the same.
