Illinois-because it has the big city feel without being overly populated. And their still is a lot of open space in Illinois plus having one of the nation's biggest cities does good for economic oppotunity.

IMO, the people make a (the) place. Any place. Scenery and attractions are icing on the cake It's like you can go to the priciest, fanciest restaurant anywhere and a bad-mooded employee or rude, obnoxous attention hounds at next table could still affect your experience. Then you could go to a paper-plate BBQ joint dirt cheap and have the most pleasant time ever!

Loved West Virginia when we were there. Nice folks!!

I say California because of the amazing diversity. Pacific coast, deserts, coastal redwoods, central valley farmlands, Sierra Nevada mts., Lake Tahoe.

A lot of it is the scenery, but other than that it's people are pretty decent, and it's not overcrowded.

Really? my family and I drove in WV and the drivers kept cutting her for a parking spot she had been waiting for. I guess people in WV are just nice if you are white

hundreds yearly.Did you know we have pheasant, Elk,and mountain lions?
Ever go to our Bricktown in Oklahoma city for a night on the town?Go watch
a first class concert at the ford center, or a hockey game, basketball, indoor
football?Want to go to a casino? see a horse race? Have you ever wanted to see a town where time stood still, or maybe
even live in that place. Guthrie OK, is one of the best perserved places in the
country for that feel. And dont forget the nicest people. If your wanting a great place to live, its OKLAHOMA!!!!

I'm a native Californian - it is not my favorite state - it has gorgeous beaches but does not have the gorgeous emerald green landscape that abounds on the east coast. I will have to pick Maine.

Mine, too. And not because I'm a native, either.
