Perhaps Juan structured the order of events to proclaim 'excessive cruelty', to help with obtaining the DP in the penalty phase? That would be the only reason I could think of. After all it was Juan who insisted she stole the gun, and pre meditated to shoot Travis, so why should she stab first if she brought the gun?
So many unanswered questions. Does anyone know if the books have any new details?
It never made sense to me why he was only shot one time. The gun should have held seven or more rounds. I presumed that she stabbed him so many times because she did not want him to live - she put great effort into covering her tracks. So I think she kept stabbing until any involuntary muscle movement stopped and she was sure that he was dead. If the gun worked properly; she could have just emptied the magazine. That is; providing the gun did not jam and she did have the magazine. I always wanted to hear if the grandfather kept the magazine in the gun? If he did not and she only stole the gun; it would then be only a one shot and done. That could have been a missing piece of evidence? But; I believe that Jodi's original statement was that the gun jammed?
That's a very good theory, the chamber only had one bullet in it...
Did Jodi ever take any self defense or shooting classes? In shooting class, they teach you if the person you are shooting is closer then 30 feet, you can plan on only getting 1 shot off, that a reasonable capable person can cover 30 feet in a few seconds.
Therefore, in self defense training, they tell you that at close range you can count on getting 1 shot off, possible more, but don't count on it, then in comes in hand to hand combat after that.
I wish we could have heard from the Grandfather if he did indeed lock the magazine in the gun.

I just wish the weapon would have turned up. It would have answered so many questions. But Jodi always had that amnesia thing about stabbing and where she laid her weapons. Was it ever proven that the knife in the dishwasher was one of the murder weapons or did the real knife also disappear with the gun?
Judge Stephens sets status hearing on August 26. Judge says there are a number of issues to address and will not set a firm trial date. She hopes to start trial in September but doesn't think it's realistic. Judge advised lawyers she wants them to move forward as if the case will be going to trial in September.
Arias again in prison garb, escorted by armed prison guards as she jingled in the courtroom with her cuffs and chains. Arias was arrested five years ago yesterday.
So back to another status hearing August 26.

Ridiculous that we are spending more money and attention on this case. I support the death penalty, but, if the jury did not agree, then life in prison, next case. Move on.
Wow!!! What a truck load of Mumbo Jumbo from Judge Stevens!! Nothing decisive, just lot of 'intention'. This trial is going to go on and on and on, well into 2014.
What if the new jury decides on the minimum penalty? What a colossal waste. Actually, even if they agree on DP, the appeals will cost even more money!
Which bureaucrat in Arizona is appropriating funds for this? For what possible reason?
It isn't logical.
And with all the increasing exposure of the Jodi/Travis story thru media, books and entertainment industry, how can there be a jury that has never heard of this? Ridiculous.
Who are they going to pool for jury questioning? Illegal aliens who live in the back of trucks on the border who don't have TV or speak English?
And they're going to have to sequester this round, they can't risk the motions to dismiss based on media exposure, or jurors out at the bars, getting DUI's. Besides, with the Diamondbacks and the Cardinals both in full swing in their prospective seasons in Phoenix,
what bars in Phoenix these days won't have at least 4 Flat-screens running sports and news?
The media exposure this round is going to be exponentially gathering world wide attention. Any juror is going to have their '15 Minutes of Fame' instantly.
How are they going to find 18 people in Arizona who don't lie, when opportunism arises? We already learned that Mormons and coroners can lie under oath, (lol)........
