Does anyone know if the pocket of neighborhoods just north of Speedway at Alveron (not north of Grant) are reasonably safe? Specifically N Winstel Blvd?

Can't say I know for sure, but it probably is "reasonably" safe. It's a little too close to Alvernon and Grant for comfort. Don't know if the activities spill to Speedway or not...

Found more info - it's the area between Pima and Speedway. Crime stats I ran didn't show any violent crime, but information I've found elsewhere seems to show different information.

Wow! I hope so as my elderly parents live just NW of there. Surely, one would take precautions. At one time, 1070's-80's lots opof people put bars on thier windows which could be a bit cultural and decorative. Later, ways to unlock them from inside had to be installed for fire escape access. Please don't let that scare you. Do you see gang graphitti in the area? Have you asked the police department how many calls and how many convictions they have from the area?

Good Luck,
kathy

I don't know what else to tell you... Seems to be even worse than I thought (it's something to be worse than Grant & Alvernon...).

Looks like at least you're not likely to be killed.

I'd say there's no need to trouble trouble until trouble troubles you.

There's nothing cultural and decorative about the bars. Where you see them, most of the time they're needed! Sorry. OK, there are some styles of homes that might have them in decent older neighborhoods.

That's what I was afraid of. I do think there are some apartment complexes on the corner of Alvernon and Speedway. But still seems to be lots of activity.
