My husband and I have just barely started watching this (on Netflix). We're just about to start with Season 3. We love the show, but if the Doc doesn't darn soon start showing some evidence that he's actually a real live human being with feelings, I'm going to start genuinely disliking him!

Oh NO! It would ruin the whole show if he showed any real feelings, like him just the way he is Lol

This. We watch reruns every SaturdY night. He's a good doctor like House and he's likable in his own way.

I find that watching things with a husband is totally different than watching them by myself or with friends. When I watch things with a husband, I'm more apt to make an effort to agree with my husband's opinions, just to make him happy, bond with him, and get him to feel one with me. I also don't get absorbed into the program so much. I'm more into whether or not my hubby likes the program or not.

I don't really find that to be the case. Often we'll disagree about a character, but that's okay. After 44 years of marriage, we've bonded on enough issues that disagreeing about TV characters is really no biggie.

I just started watching it recently myself. It's nice...with the odd personality of the doctor...I suppose he can't help it much! I'd hate to live in such a town, though. In what appears like a fairly small town, people's health goes downhill suddenly and pretty easily. If it was real, I'd stay away from there!

One of the very few present-day television programmes I actually enjoy.

<tangent>Now if OPB would stop rerunning series 10 of "New Tricks" (follows Doc Martin on Saturday nights) week after week after week after week after week after week after week after week, like they've been doing now for months on end. It's not like they don't have the other nine series to work through from the start whilst we're waiting for #11 to arrive on our shores...</tangent>

The town is a character in itself. And yes, I'd stay away..

I'd love to go there. The sea to one side, the land around it, the very individual people sound wonderful. And it really is a town they film in, and the town is not terribly different. The difference is in the Cornish speech. They don't do proper English, since it wouldn't sound right, but they use bits and pieces of Cornish dialect and accent, so it sounds authentic but they don't need subtitles. One of the cast did a few lines in pure dialect and you definately would need them.

If you watched Poldark, remember how the lower class dialect was sometimes subtitled? And then sometimes not in the American showing. Jud would go on and on about something and Ross understood but the rest of us were huh????

Apparently there are quite a few non cornish who have moved to the region and a mix of accents, but the Cornish mantra still rules since you don't move there unless you really want to. Even Doc Martin gets that when he goes home.
