1) The handmaids will have to do an exceptional job at disposing of the body of the guard. Aunt Lydia will realize that something is wrong regardless, and June will be transferred to another district. She might even be sent to Chicago where she will contact Nick.
2) Lawrence will be found out and executed.
3) The Waterfords will be tried for their crimes and will both try to testify against each other.
4) Does anyone know if anyone in Gilead has much contact with the outside world? I know that they have Radio Free America, but I’m sure that common people don’t have access to it. I think we will begin to see cracks develop in Gilead's control. It won’t develop in season four, but by season five, there will be a civil war with possible assistance from the outside world.
Handmaid's Tale can go on indefinitely. I would think that the end goal is to overthrow Gilead.
OMG- who watched the last episode of the season already
I did -- first thing after I woke up this morning! Un-frickin-believable! And if this episode didn't redeem the season in the minds of all the naysayers, nothing could.
Loved the whole episode, especially the look on Rita's face when she got off the plane. Nice cliffhanger with June too. Looking forward to next season.

I know it doesn't help the story line and effect the shows budget. I hope next season they just mention briefly Gilead military might or 1 episode showing a flashback how the United States lost the war.
Throughout the episode I worried the plane was going to be shot down, even when June was lying on the ground looking up at it passing over. Kept waiting for the streak of a missile and a fireball in the sky.
I would have enjoyed the cliffhanger more if I weren't so distracted by the bad CGI job placing her in the cape (or whatever other fabric that was) that they were carrying her in. She had been losing blood all night, but still had the amazing core muscles to keep her legs perfectly stick straight despite the fabric ending just below her knees. LOL!
