I know it doesn't help the story line and effect the shows budget. I hope next season they just mention briefly Gilead military might or 1 episode showing a flashback how the United States lost the war.
I know! In a past season June said that Gilead assassinated the President and members of Congress and blamed terrorism for it. I forget if they imposed martial law or not, but the whole process was gradual and didn’t happen overnight. I’m guessing that most Americans were scared and went along with everything. By the time people realized what was happening, it was too late, and Gilead controlled most of the government. In season two (I think) when June first tried to escape, they showed an airstrip full of decommissioned jet-fighters. They probably dismantled much of the military to prevent an overthrow. Presumably, Gilead still has nuclear weapons, so that’s how they keep international critics at bay,

Was reading an article today from the producers.

They mentioned thst was the reason why other nations wouldn't attack Gilead.

That leads to the other question the nuclear zone did Gilead use a nuke?

Also it seems they control all of the Continental U S. in the show. Be interesting to see part of the show go to California.

They'd have to first be able to figure out that June was the one who planned it all. It's not like Commander Lawrence is going to turn her in, he'd create an alibi for her, and none of the others would turn on her either. The Marthas would all be in more trouble than June. I think we'll see some more Martha hangings when the next season starts.

Here's the map that has been used in the show:

https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/...20180713022330

http://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertai...ids-tale-hulu/

The dark red areas are the "rebel" held areas, so Florida and most of Texas and California. It's all technically Gilead, but the East coast is the only area where they have complete and total control.

And of course Alaska and Hawaii are still under control of the US government.

Cool

If you look at one of the maps shows 4 nuclear symbols.

Great Episode! I can't imagine where June and the rest of the handmaids will go from here. Also how did the Martha's manage to get all the children out without their "parents" knowing? I'm a bit confused on that part.

That society seems to consider suspicion as enough "proof". June is considered a trouble maker and Comm. Lawrence is already skating on thin ice. They will be "persons of interest" immediately. She's going to have a hard time hiding a gunshot wound to the body. And when they find the body of the guard who shot her...

Question: Did any of the handmaids get killed in the gun-fire when they were throwing rocks at the guards? It kind of looked like a couple of them might have.

I thought so also unless they were just wounded.

She'll have to. Otherwise the series will be over. Will it be believable though?
