I thought it was very good. It's not a perfect crime mystery, there were a couple of red herrings. But as a character study, it's superb.

Yes, it's well acted by Winslet in a very naturalistic, non-glam & frankly as an unlikeable character, this gets explained as the series develops though. The writers throw out red herrings with each segment so that's sort of fun in an otherwise depressing atmosphere.
