Yes, and he said its an in-universe mythology legend that he has in no way flushed out. meaning he doesnt really have much of an idea about it.
You have to think about it this way, he spends years just writing sections of his books, then months of a team making sure it doesnt contradict other parts of the book, rewrites, and processing again.
making up a show with no source material condense that timeline into a couple of weeks, and he said he would have no part in it.

I was watching this video yesterday and it sounds like BloodMoon was not a good idea and obviously there was no source material. I still think it would have been interesting to see the history of this universe going back to that time period if done properly, but this would have been a major flop.
Why Criston Cole slaughter the Joffrey fella? Kinda random.
Because he went and told him "I know your secret and you know mine" hoping it could make them reluctant allies but instead Christon saw it as a threat. Plus he was in a highly unstable emotional state.
Pretty brutal though huh? Dude's face was jelly when he was done with him.
Yeah. The writing on last night's episode was ... well, I guess "weak" is the nicest thing I could say. Pivotal things happened not because they were motivated or made any logical sense whatsoever, but simply because the writer wanted them to.
The biggest difference between this show and GAME OF THRONES: GOT had pivotal stakes. Yes, a lot of the show was centered around politics, betrayal, war, and who would sit the Iron Throne. But at the back of it all was the reality: The world is going to end if we don't stop it.
HOUSE OF THE DRAGON has none of that. This is all just political in-fighting, and there isn't a sympathetic player in the lot. I really don't care who wins the throne. This like watching a pack of stray dogs fight over a bone.

Some parts of the US that's considered "What do you want to do Friday night?".
I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but I kind of know what happens since I've read the (limited) outline in the book.
I will say that this is following that much more than Game of Thrones did. The whole "Fake Aegon" arc was cut out of that show, as well as other interminable arcs, like the cholera epidemic in Mereen.
