This sounds pretty shallow, I guess, but aside from all the political debates and reasons for and against, I'd really like to see a new star or two on the flag in my lifetime, just because I love the evolution of nations.
I do, however, have the view that if you're receiving benefits from the US government that do not count as foreign aid, you need to be a state where you pay your fair share and get your representation in Congress. Thus, a vote is needed in the territories.
Err - hang on a bit! Kiribati and Nauru are not and NEVER HAVE BEEN U.S. territories. They were British and are now independent countries!
How's that for imperialism!!!

Guam, the Virgin Islands, the Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa (if it chooses) can all enter the Union with modifications. New stars can be added to the flag to represent the new states. You can call each one a state, but instead of two Senators you can have just one, and the correct number of Representatives to meet the populations of the respective areas. Wyoming has just over 500,000 inhabitants. So once the population for the new small states reaches 500,000, then an additional senator can be added. Each island group will get the representation that their people deserve and they will be bale to participate Presidential elections.
