According to the US DOL website and also press releases from several states' DOL (Nebraska, Kansas, Pennsylvania, Indiana) just to name a few.. Extended Benefits have now been triggered due to the high unemployment rates over the past few months.

Each state will extend Unemployment Benefits for an X amount of weeks (each state's EB extension varies)

Extended Benefits will be available starting in July. I've read that a claimant must have exhausted BOTH regular 26 weeks of unemployment AND exhausted 13 weeks of PEUC, which in my case will run out next week.

If anyone here is familiar with this, specifically for NY STATE, please chime in and share your thoughts/knowledge

THIS of course, is not the extra $600 federal payment set to expire thru July 31

Thank you in advance!

PA's unemployment rate drops in May, but still high enough to trigger extended UC benefits
June 22, 2020

Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate fell from 16.1 percent in April to 13.1 percent in May. The state Department of Labor and Industry says the Extended Benefits Program was triggered at the end of May by the state’s high unemployment rate due to the coronavirus pandemic. L&I’s Susan Dickinson says the program provides 9 to 13 weeks of additional unemployment compensation. While most people will quality for extended benefits, there is a wage test associated with program which was last triggered in 2009 during the Great Recession and before that in 1983.

"there is a wage test associated with program" what is this wage test?

If Extended Benefits is for those who exhausted BOTH regular unemployment and 13 weeks of PEUC, that means that those claimants have already been unemployed for nearly a year or over a year...

Same happened in 2009-2010...

Why go back to work if you will be getting extended benefits? I can understand extending it on a case by case basis, if the person's employer is not up and running yet. If you work some place that is up and running, why go back to work if you can get by with the unemployment money? Many people have been spending less money the last few months because they do not go out or buy stuff like they normally would, and are getting by just fine on unemployment benefits.

Why go back to work? I am sure most people would rather be back to work making 2-3X more per week than what unemployment is giving them each week. Also, if there WAS work to go back to. Most professional NYers who were laid off, job eliminated permanently due to permanent shut down cant get by on $504 per week

Not sure where you're from but my rent is $2500 per month. Unemployment does not cover that.

If someone's company is up and running, they HAVE to go back to work. They can't choose unemployment over working. They wouldn't qualify for EB because their employer could report that they refused to go back. It's not their decision to make.

For a lot of people getting EB, they don't have employers or companies to "go back to" so it's a non-issue.

So, what is this:

"While most people will quality for extended benefits, there is a wage test associated with program"

What wage test would be associated with this program? If those who will be getting EB would obviously have no wages for almost a year since theyve already exhausted regular 26 weeks and on verge of exhausting 13 weeks of PEUC

Ca EDD should have some more info on this soon as stated here yesterday:

https://abc7news.com/ca-edd-coronavi...efits/6265603/

Pasted this question and answer from kgo-tv site:
"What happens if I max out my regular EDD benefits and the federal PEUC extension?

Levy said the EDD it soon rolling out the Fed-ED program, which according to the agency, extends claimants benefits for another 13 weeks once the Fed-ED period has been activated. The program is activated in each state when unemployment reaches a certain level.

If someone is eligible, Fed-ED benefits would be in addition to the regular unemployment benefits and the federal extension under the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC).

The Fed-ED program benefits would be available once PEUC and regular benefits have been used.

Levy said more information will be announced beginning Thursday and into next week.

The Fed-ED program will begin processing applicants next week and it will be done automatically if applicants have maxed out their regular and PEUC benefits, Levy said."
