I have been in touch with, so far, two employment agencies. It just takes so long filling out everything, meeting with them and I spent all morning doing skills assessments for both companies, so now I have a headache from basically not moving all morning and just staring at the computer answering questions.

Edited to add: Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread I just could SO relate to the OPs post even though our situations are a little different. I am VERY bored.
The only thing, though, is don't rely on them getting you anything. They may, but it has been my experience (as well as others in this forum) that many Employment Agencies seem to be very eager to just grab up your resume and then get you on their books but do very little to get you an actual job.

Or they send you on interviews (remember they get a cut of $$) you are not even suitable for...

Or they send you to a temporary assignment so their placement numbers can look attarctive-lol Basically sending you to a job that will have you in the same situation that you are now.

I rather go to the toilet than an employment agency.

I can't help but wonder what the single Dads are supposed to do when everything seems geared towards the Moms? Everyone gets a total shock when it s the male parent thats playing the domestic role. Who cares which parent is doing the job?

Sorry, I know that was off-topic (MY TOPIC at that, so maybe its ok) but that's a peeve of mine

Temp agencys are an attempt (usually a desperate one) to get something.. anything.

I've had very little luck with them. I took an hour of my life to apply and talk to them and since I left their doors have heard squat. The few times I ever did get temp work it was for 1-3 days once a month and I got like $150 each time, which doesn't pay any bills.

I disagree about the temp agencies. I found my first job out of college via a temp agency and although I only worked there a year because we ended up moving out of state, it was a great job that gave me lots of great experience. I bet for every bad experience with an employment agency there are 10 good ones.

I'm not just relying on them though, I'm still doing everything I was doing before plus some.

I do feel for single dads that are in the same boat as me and other single or former stay at home moms. It's tough for everyone but there are support groups and such for them too. There isn't as big a market but they are out there.

When I'm unemployed and on my own, the last thing i need is a temporary job which makes any of those agencies pointless. I always wanted to work at a temp agency though behind the desk and helping people get jobs but we all know the only way to get a job like that is through a connection.
