The idea would be to disorientate the population who would likely be panicked at the sight of "alien" craft around them, then, at their weakest moment the militia would contain everyone into total submission.

I thought it was an interesting take on Roswell, but it would be hard to imagine that this sort of technology could be kept totally secret all these years.
You mean you watched the X Files reboot. I usec to love this show but this one had me sleeping.

I thought the same thing, but the X-Files didn't actually come up with all those ideas. There are several "documentaries" on youtube expousing the same stuff. The true Masters of the Conspiracy vary, depending on the documentary. Some of the frequent nominees are:

The Illuminati
Lizard People
Aliens
Inhabitants of the Hollow Earth

Or some combination of the above.

Perhaps the 'aliens' are already here. Are we still looking for carbon based humanoids or have we expanded our thinking to include other forms of life based on other elements?

Anyway, the date of First Contact (Star Trek), April 5, 2063 is still a long way off- The Vulcans aren't aware of us yet.

When we say aliens, we automatically assume they look different than us.

Maybe they look just like us but are more advanced in their genetics and intellect. They could roam around us without us noticing.

As far as alien crafts etc. They might have cloaking ship a la star trek. I think everyone is waiting a first contact like the movie independence day. We probably are being observed and have been for 100's of years who knows.

Maybe Donald Trump scared them also

Since we've accomplished extremely mild exploration already, and it seems evident that Earth's bustling ecosystem of life (intelligent and not) is unique for as far as we've explored, it makes me wonder how Earth ended up like this. You would think that other planets in our solar system would show evidence of supported life that's either in its early stages, active similar to Earth's, or long past extinction. But again, Earth's exploration of outer space is extremely primitive.

Here's an interesting article on some of the possible alternatives for different biochemistry on other worlds:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypoth...f_biochemistry

Regarding Titan, exobiologists have been thinking about the possibility of a methane rather than water based biome on that moon ... water wouldn't work as a solvent because at Titan's temperatures it's a rock as hard as granite:

Life on Titan?

Earth is perfectly balanced in regard to the sun for the oxygen/carbon mix to produce life. On other planets like Mercury, Venus, or even Mars that isn't true. So it isn't surprising that life as we know it did not evolve on other planets in our solar system.

What other forms of life without the oxygen/carbon mix might be possible? Scientists have been asking that for decades. It's still a great debate. Not only is the answer very complicated, but we may not even be asking the right question.

It's not easy to see Earth-sized planets outside our solar system. To see a planet, you need it to make a gravity signature against its star and that's a lot easier to see when the planets are big.

As for our own solar system, there might be some life or evidence of it in several places. It was possible that Venus once had an Earth-like atmosphere and maybe supported life. However, it would be burned to a crisp since its greenhouse effect took over around 600 million years ago, so we'll never know. There's a possibility of finding evidence on Mars - we've searched only very small parts of that planet. There are some possibilities on some Jupiter or Saturn moons.

All the exploration we've done of our own solar system is mostly view the planets in orbit or fly-bys. There have been a few probes but imagine how little of a planet a remote-control car with some instruments can really see.
