Apparently the kids like the food! Wonder what some of the parents think. It's vegetarian, not vegan, so cheese and eggs are still on the menu. Kids are free to bring meat as their lunch; it's just that the cafeteria only offers vegetarian meals.
If it is optional and apparently it is not, I think the idea is great, but when the only choice is vegetarian I think this is wrong. We have got to stop allowing government to run our lives. BTW, I do think there are a lot of very good vegetarian foods, I think introducing them to young people is great, but no, I would be livid, on principle if this involved my kids.

I think it is wonderful, especially since they are allowed to bring in their own nov-vegetarian lunch if they want.
My aunt worked at a large SDA hospital where no meat at all was ever served in the cafeteria or the restaurant in the building.

Working at a SDA hospital or even going to one is a different situation altogether. In that case you are making a choice. In the case of the public schools, 2 issues arise: 1-it is back to the nanny state again, as a tax payer, I have a right to expect my kids to get a lunch, at school that is healthy yes, but not geared to the desires of less than a small % of people and 2-What about winter months, shouldn't my kids have the right to a hot lunch without expected them to eat totally meatless? I don't see anything wrong with offering vegetarian choices, but only vegetarian is infringing on my rights. I have no choice, where I send my kids to school.

I agree. This is a public school and they forcing a minority choice.
Schools make all sorts of food choices for kids, serving vegetarian lunches no more fringes on people's rights as serving the typical hamburgers, pizzas, etc. As with the hamburgers, pizza, etc...if a parent objects they can make their kids lunch.
Healthy vegetarian lunches can be made cheaper than meat-based ones, for that reason alone its worth while.
Regardless, the foods served in schools is a nightmare....
Lol at the people freaking out about the "choices" to go meatless being forced on them.
1. You can send your kid with meat to school.
2. You really think kids need meat three times a day?
Geezus.
People really do seem to have an odd aversion to vegetarian food.....its difficult to get people to go to vegetarian/vegan restaurants for just a single meal!
