I'm from NH and I hate it when people say VT and NH are very similiar. They're not. Vermont is run by green zealots and socialists and is one of the most antibusiness states in the country. NH on the other hand is run by people of a much more practical mindset who realize that duh.......people need jobs and personal freedom is a good thing. It's been my experience that Vermont and most of the people living there take themselves entirely too seriously. Just compare and contrast the Vermont threads with the NH threads on this website. You'll quickly see that Vermonters are much more thin-skinned, easily offended, and defensive.

You're entitled to your opinion and you have some points. However, it's best not to generalize a whole state of people based on your experience with a few. Lot's of good folks everywhere and Vermont and NH are no exception. I don't paint the whole state of NH as bad if "my" interactions with the natives aren't great. Just like the boobs we have in Washington don't mean the whole countries bad. If I said "most of the people in NH ", you might feel compelled to respond too. Give us a break brother, we're not all that different!

First off, anyone that does generalizations is clueless and likes to spout off due to ignorance. Vermonters are equal to Hew Hampshire ites. WE tend to see us as all in the same fight.

Flaws are flaws and the scale is tipped in NEITHER side. It cost me over 100k to move to NH and damn it all!!!!! Taxes made me flee my beloved home to VT! We are all in different situations and it sounds like you WANTED to be in VT but your situation didn't uphold it. Otherwise the hostility? Same post, different poster. If you want your situation to work, you make sure it does. If not in your current locale, you are wise enough to leave.

Seconded and repped.
People are all the same, in that people each think they/we are somehow "more" unique (distinct, special, different, better or worse) than other individuals or groups.
Some folks are more suited to the conditions (social, geographic, climate, ethos/atmosphere/culture) of a given place,
but that doesn't make "those people" or "that place" inherently superior or inferior overall-
it's an individual match, and "one size does *not* fit all".

I agree completely, Cloven, and as an example cite the vanity license plates the State of VT sells that proclaim "I am VT STRONG" (What does that mean, really? For for a state the depends on a very steady flow of federal dollars to prop up its endless social programs, exactly how "strong" is "VT STRONG"?)

Those plates are not vanity plates. The money raised from their purchase is being directed to the Vermont Disaster Relief Fund and the Vermont Foodbank for Hurricane Irene assistance.

I sit with an extremely sharp octogenarian who claims, "I live in Vermont and I do what I want." Can I argue with Harvard?

Actually, tennis, the Feds were amazed at how Vermonters just rolled up their sleeves and started pitching in after that disastrous storm. I remember a quote where one federal official said he had never seen anything like it. Nothing "vain" about that; proud, maybe, but rightly so.

Ladelfina, I too, live in VT and, I too "rolled up my sleeves" after the storm to repair the damage on my own property and to help the people in my small town. I'm not disputing anyone's strength or resiliency. My comment, which perhaps I did not express well, was in reference to Cloven's post regarding the impulse some people in some places have to set themselves above others, based solely on where they're from. As a VTer, I don't feel I'm any stronger, or more resilient, than, for example, someone from New Jersey or Long Island who faced Hurricane Sandy.
