The fact that people are "leaving the workforce" is correct, and not good economic news. However, the same phenomenon is occurring in other states, so Vermont's relatively low unemployment rate is still relatively low compared to most other states, including New Hampshire.

Unemployment is 5.3% in Virginia. Sure - there are lots of jobs and LOTS of people for those jobs...too many people. It is hard in other areas of the country though, not just in Vermont. Low paying jobs? We have a ton of them and that's what people with college degrees are working....and our minimum wage is lower, though rent is VERY high. Our taxes are lower for real estate, but we pay taxes on our vehicles, yearly inspection fees on our vehicles, etc., etc, insurance is higher.... If you move further out and away from the high cost of living city areas....you'll be hit with over 10% unemployment rates.... The grass is always greener? No, the grass is pretty much the same just a different type of grass no matter what state you live in....

Something a friend once said to me regarding 2 different youth sports organizations seems to have some meaning here..."The grass isn't greener here, the dog **** is just in different areas"
