I think foliage season is winding down even in southern Vermont but there's still a bit of color around.

whoa same day! Disappointed that it was cloudy till about 3:30 or so. Got to Brattleboro just when it was clearing. Gloomy and foggy in the hills to the southwest (Guilford)

Nov. 1, 2016 (top half of the two pics) & then Oct. 28, 2014-same location & 3 red trees, albeit from different angle.
Seems the red trees aren't yet at such an advanced stage of redness this year, compared with approx. 2 yrs. earlier.

Agreed, it has seriously popped over the last few days, I think the rain set everything off.

Interesting you said that because that's how it felt here as well with some rain the other day. It's like it jump started the colors again even though been torching warm lately and mostly still green
