My problem seems to be with the administration. I had surgery earlier this year and because I was under-insured the hospital suggested signing up for Catamount. This was about 3 months ago. I filled out the forms and then got a bill for coverage. Evidently I qualified. I called them to ask what coverage I had as no policy had been sent my way. Not even a brochure. I was told there was an option between Blue Cross and MVP and no policy was in effect as of yet. I asked how long I had to decide. The answer I was given was until August 31. Still, I had no information on what the coverage was. Could you please send something to give me an idea? Well, no. We need the $$$ first.

They received my check somewhere around 7/25 and cashed it. Inexplicably, I received all the sign-up forms over again shortly thereafter. So I called them and was told that it was because a notice of cancellation had been sent. ??? No, I hadn't received one. I asked if I had been covered for anything yet and they stated an emphatic N.O. Then what's being canceled? No explanation. I had to sign up all over again if I wanted their coverage. Then what was the Aug. 31 date all about? Still no clear answer. Crickets...

As yet, I'm not very impressed. I still don't have any coverage and they've had my check for well over a month. I did exactly as they had asked. All forms have been returned on time and they have not done anything except tell me that I have to jump through all the hoops a second time. Great...

A real insurance company will cover you the day you sign up and give them the premium. They will at least issue a binder while your MIB is being verified - at least that's the way it was when I used to underwrite for Metropolitan. IF I ever get on this plan I can just imagine the wrangling I will have to put up with for an actual claim to be processed. Sorry, but I'm a little pi$$ed at the procedural here. I truly hope that this hasn't been everyone's experience.

What an awful PITA. That's exactly what you didn't need while recovering from surgery. It sounds like there was a major mix up and unfortunately you suffered because of it. I hope they straighten it out and turn things around for you -- quickly.

I'm not sure what the holdup in answering your question was. The Catamount coverage available through MVP & BCBS is available online. For more specific info, Catamount has always told us to call the insurance company directly. We have and both MVP & BCBS will answer questions all day long.

Our experience with Catamount (we chose MVP) has been excellent. My usually-healthy husband was gravely ill for over a year. Medical adventures included consulting specialists, extensive diagnostics, surgery, hospitalization, and now ongoing treatment (likely forever). Fortunately, he is doing well now. To our endless relief, our Catamount coverage has been seamless. Any time we have a question, we call (usually MVP) and it's resolved in moments.
