I'm not sure about quests, it's been awhile since I played but wildlife (bears, wolves, etc) will attack you and you'll need to explore... So it's confirmed that you do have to probably kill an animal at some point in the game.
I smiled a bit remembering a guildmate of mine in Lord of the Rings Online. We would be questing, running through the forest and he would shoot the little critters. They would let out a sad little death sound. I always gave him a hard time regarding his squirrel killing habits....
I really want to play Skyrim, but I heard in order to complete some quests you have to kill animals.
You do not have to kill all animals; some can even be pets or your adopted children in Hearthfire can have a pet (fox or maybe a dog). Rabbits, deer, goats, chickens, elk, and others can be ignored or just observed – they run from you. Generally most attacking animals give your verbal warning (a growl before they attack). Even the dragons usually give warning before the actual attack – that does not mean that you can always hide from an attack. Some animals, like mammoths, will not attack unless you get too close.
Once you start an encounter with an aggressive wild animal; you have to run or defend yourself. The game identifies animals and people as hostile. As soon as you have a red dot; you have to fight or run.
It is one thing to say I will not kill any animal. It is another thing to protect yourself. Some of the animal attacks are fairly realistic and you do not have a chance to debate ethics.
Remember; it is a game. It is a very long and complicated game. There are many challenges and not just the one quest. There are also plenty of gray or darker quest – vampires, werewolves, cannibalism and betrayal. Of the millions of Skyrim players; the majority will never act out this fantasy in the real world.
Thanks Fisheye...That actually helps me alot. I think I'm going to give it a shot. I'll let you guys know how I do!
The PC version of the game keeps track of how many hours I've played. According to “Steam” I have played 1447 hours. I do not think that is entirely true; I believe that the computer just sat for some of those hours. However; I did find the game addictive and I have spent many hours exploring and fighting. I have still not accomplished every achievement (I'm at 91%). I have played with several different characters.
Don't forget to take your time choosing your race and perfecting your character in the beginning as you go to the headsman's ax. You can alter your appearance later in the game – but you will have the same race and sex unless you start over.
You can also set your difficulty – but I think that you can change it during the game play?
I have a friend that has the Skyrim guide. I think it is almost two inches thick (if I remember correctly). You do not have to follow the quest lines. You also do not have to join the Imperials, Stormcloaks, werewolves, or vampires (although you can accidentally become a vampire).
Do your own thing and enjoy. Many of us would be more than willing to help if you feel that you need help. Have fun!
I wish there was something like where the player can pick up people in a wagon and take them to different cities and towns. Just similar to GTA San Andreas when you get a taxi, pick up people and take them to different places.
With the subject of the carriages: To new players (like calif408) the carriages are an excellent way to quickly expand your board. I know that your money is tight when you are new. But $20 or $50 will get you from one end of the map to almost the other side. It might take days to reach the nine holds otherwise. All you have to do is make the first trip to the Whiterun stables, pay the driver and jump in the back.
I really want to play Skyrim, but I heard in order to complete some quests you have to kill animals. I know, I'm strange. I don't mind shooting, stabbing etc people but when it comes to animals I put my foot down, will not do it.
Can anyone verify for me? It sounds like an awesome game, but idw to waste my time getting into it only to realize I cant finish it
Thanks
You can pretent to kill people but not animals?!
Strange world we live in today.
