I don't hate Marylanders in general, but I detest basically everything having to do with the city of Baltimore.

When I was young lad here, there was a low-level dislike amongst the three different areas although it was pretty much mindless rhetoric for the most part. DC was looked down upon as being poor and black. Virginia was where the rednecks and grits were. Maryland was full of preppies.

Times change and the three areas are alot more similiar these days. The population is less static and a good many people have probably lived in at least 2 of the trifecta at one point.

Default The Neighbors

Everyone seems to enjoy engaging in talk about "the neighbors." In the company I used to work for, we had offices throughout the Mid-Atlantic. For us, the Potomac River was like the Mason-Dixon line - there was a whole world above it, and a whole world below it. I'm a native Virginian, born and raised in SW VA, and I can tell you a little to the south they make all kinds of wise-cracks about West Virginia. North Carolinians make wise-cracks about the South Carolinians. It seems like no matter where you live, you always want to think there is someone next door who is a justifiable objective of derision.

There are many things that divide people: religion, ethnicity, nationality, regionliasm. It's easy to sterotype other people - comedians make a living doing it. But for most of us, generalizations rarely hold true. I have lots of friends and people that I admire in Maryland despite being from one of the first families of Virginia (FFV) going back to the 18th century.

I don't think so. Marylanders are pretty decent people, and Maryland has beautiful women.

Maryland seems to have slightly nuttier drivers, but that's about the only difference I've noticed. Up here in NoVa, everyone's pretty much the same whether they're from DC, MD, or VA.

I did purposely choose VA over MD when I moved to this area, because what I read about VA appealed more to me, in terms of taxes, politics, history, and cities/neighborhoods. But I found the Bethesda area decent, too, and probably would have just as easily settled there had I found a place I just couldn't resist.

I never thought about Marylanders. At least its below the Mason-Dixon line.

We only hate people from New Jersey!

No just kidding.. Virginians are now open minded to people from all over the country.

Excuse me what do you mean by "rednecks"? Rednecks are ALL OVER. And Virginia was where the blue bloods are. And whats wrong with grits?

I have never heard that. I've lived here my entire life (southwest Virginia), and haven't heard anyone ever say anything bad about people from Maryland.
