He's a softie compared to Gilmore:

No one expected the meeting to take on such a sharp edge. The pow-wow included some of the leading high-tech chieftains in the Old Dominion, including Stephen M. Case of America Online, along with top politicos from Richmond such as Gov. Jim Gilmore and Secretary of Technology Donald W. Upson. Tensions had been building over the rising transportation crisis in Northern Virginia. The high-tech chiefs wanted the state to act more aggressively to unclog the region’s crowded highways. Gilmore was refusing to raise taxes statewide or even make it easier for Northern Virginia to raise taxes regionally. Suddenly, Case raised the ante. Maybe Northern Virginia should form a state with southern Maryland and D.C., he taunted the governor. "What would you do if we seceded?" Gilmore didn’t miss a beat: "I’d send in the National Guard."

That's only for a short period, and was orchestrated by Virginia officials and the Secret Service (a conspiracy!) Many people in NOVA will get the day off and free bus service. Marylanders will have to deal with not only Northern Virginians but Regular Virginians who voted for Obama driving all over their state.
I don't even want to think about people living in the District.

That quote from Gilmore seems along the lines of what England's King George III would have said before the American Revolution.

Our country's change from Democracy to Tyranny is SICKENING!!! Take the "abusing driver fines" for example. Very few wanted it, but it was law until the uprising of Virginians against it.

It's Maryland's fault!

Just like its ALL VIRGINIA'S FAULT that Maryland doesn't have any Interstate Highways that connects to Downtown DC via I-95 and I-270, The scrapping of a New Western Bypass that would have Included a new Potomac River Bridge Connecting Fairfax County and Montgomery County, Maryland not building Upscale Shopping Malls at the size of Tysons Corner, and Maryland not Attracting High Paying IT Tech/Biotech Fortune 500 HQ's in which is the reason why almost 60% of Marylanders CLOG the Beltway in the Mornings heading to Good Ol' Virginny to work and play.........

THANKS A BUNCH VIRGINIA!!!!!!!!!!

It is true. In reality NoVA is far richer than Maryland. NoVA spends a lot more money on it's infrastructure than MD and that is why it attracts more business. You have just about everything in NoVA, there are attractive tech-firms in the Tysons-Dulles corridor, financial powerhouses in Fairfax and Arlington, Vienna holds the Med, and lets not forget the huge federal gov. companies along with all the sub-contractors (think Pentagon), and a lot of NGO's. However, I am not saying that MD does not have certain areas for competition. MD does have a Bethesda area, which in fact is their financial house. MD has a very very big Bio-Tech field, be it Gov. or priv firms. Nevertheless, a HUGE % of MDers do work in VA, it is cheaper to live in MD, but overall it is not as attractive as NoVA (note: overall, i dont want to start yapping about areas here and there)
To answer the original question: NO, we in Virginia do not hate MDers. Yes, we hate their driving :-P Heheheheheh.

I was joking, my reply didn't have anything to do with Maryland - only VA. I don't know nothing about anything you said.

I could care less if a giant hole openned in the earth and everything from Fredricksburg, VA to New Jersey got sucked in. We could back-fill it and start over.

It is almost a civil war. It's so very bad. Be prepared to stop and show your "papers" when crossing the American Legion Bridge lol.

No but we do wonder why you vote in people that keep your speed limits at 55 but you drive 90 when you in Va.

I don't dislike people from Maryland. But Maryland drivers are noticeably more aggressive and take more risks behind the wheel. Even when I lived in DC I could predict what tags a car was likely to have based on the driving - the worst were Maryland cars. They certainly have less regard for pedestrians than DC or VA drivers, from my experience.

I concur with the horrible Maryland drivers comment. I was in Prince George's County yesterday, and for the love of God have you people NEVER learned what a turn signal was?!

I don't hate Marylanders but I too notice MD drivers down here in Va Beach. Most drive very aggressively and yeah without using turn signals. Just yesterday one sped out of Starbucks though she saw me coming causing me to slam on the breaks. Oh well, just another crazy driver.
