Move to Chesapeake, VA area (Hampton: apartment, college, living)

I've recently accepted a job in Chesapeake, VA. I'm 22 years olf, just graduated from college in TN. I have to make the move in a month & am looking first for an area to live & second a good apartment. I'm willing to commute 30 minutes or less to & from work, but obviously less is better (trying to avoid this tunnel people talk about that usually gets backed up in the mornings). I would love to live by the coast or close to the beach at a reasonably priced apartment (<$1,000/mo). Ill be living by myself for now, but may consider a roomate if cost of living is too high. I want to live in an area/apt building where there would be people my age to make friends. A place with lots to do, good night life, and a safe environment. Any recommendations as to an area & apt building I could research more? Thanks so much!
