The sad reality is, the inability for Prince Georges County to shake the crime. That is why businesses fail in Prince Georges County. However, its a layered failure that is the result of businesses failing within the county.

At the end of the day, its undeniable, it is what it is. Its a multi leveled failure of what other jurisdictions are good at, locking up and dealing harshly with criminals.

On the surface, you might say "Crime is down!" However, the lies, are what they are, lies. Changing felonies into misdemeanors, and watering down incidents from "Rioting juveniles fighting at metro stations throughout DC and PG" to "disorderly youth" or a shooting into "well, the victim (guy who got shot) was also a suspect, and he was true to the street code (didn't cooperate with detectives), so the police aren't going to waste their time with the incident, and not count it as a shooting. The issues with this, is that the problems get worse. Violent repeat offenders are often allowed to hone their skills (shooting, killing, robbing, stabbing, etc) and by the time an agency goes to deal with them, its too late. You will have highly skilled violent repeat offenders who are experts in their field of felonies, out nightly committing them.

The criminal justice system within the county is worthless too. An example might be, if a person gets charged with auto theft, in Prince Georges County courts, liberal states attorneys are reluctant to prosecute, and ask for a sentence with real teeth. However, thugs know, that if you go to Fairfax, Arlington, Charles County, Loudoun, and pull the same crap etc... the judges and juries are going to sink the full weight of the law into them, and "you'll never get out of jail there." While most will cry foul, racism, whatever, the message to the thug is clear, (don't ever come back to the commonwealth of Virginia, because you will get destroyed). Case and point, look at the metros in Fairfax. Fairfax county PD hired entire shifts of police to supplement Metro Transit PD's shortcomings, and everyone knows why they are there. They are there to prevent "Skate palace madness" or "Long nights and fights at L'enfant/Metro Center." They are making sure that "hoodie madness" or whatever you want to call it, doesn't spill over into Tysons I and Tysons II. Those cops there, were put there to destroy, and the thugs know it. As a criminal, you must ride the train into Virginia on a friday night, a frightful experience. There are alot of open carrying citizens who enjoy 'train patrols' looking for someone to make a robbery attempt so they can get some bullets off. Then, if you just happen to make it into Tysons and decide that your going to "lose your mind, and act like a typical A-hole" you can bet the VA cops are going to crush you and lock you up. Any extra behavior will result in extra charges, and you can almost guarantee the sentence will be stiff, so you can go back and tell your buddies you spent 3 years on time out for acting a fool. If you try to sue the police in a civil suit, it'll be thrown out, because VA upper class life doesn't entertain garbage lawsuits against their police forces. This is why the police in Virginia will chase you, ram your car, destroy your car, and if you get out and resist, destroy you into the ground, and if your lucky you'll get 15 years instead of 20. In PG and DC, juries, judges, and other pro criminal entities ensure that thugs get their payouts, for things like running from the police, fighting the police and so forth. Now you can sit there and scream civil rights this, and that if you want to, but remember, the only place thugs get a payout on this planet for fighting cops and running from cops is PG county. This is why they keep continuing to do what they do, and its become a "safe haven" for thugs if you will, to do what they do. There are people who come from all over the region to PG to commit crimes, its a de-facto free for all to do whatever the hell you want because your less likely to be prosecuted, the police aren't supposed to and don't chase you, and the citizenry (victims) are unarmed. A criminals disneyland. Even if your caught, liberal prosecutors, judges, and juries will ensure you don't get convicted, so smile and enjoy your time in court.

Now you can sit there, and say "thats not true" and whatever else you want, however, outside citizens, and former citizens of the county watch it on the news all the time. You can easily watch videos, countless "interviews" of friends and family, and citizens who stick up for suspects frequently. The media is a very large contributing factor in encouraging me to stay away from PG. Why might you ask? Well, considering I can sit there and watch snippets and clips of countless nightly shootings, stabbings, robberies, and homicides, you can also sit there and watch the riff raff that sticks up for them. Case and point, the kid who recently died running from the cops on a dirt bike, because they thought he did a robbery. His mother, and the "community" was on the news, defending his lawless out of control behavior that got him killed (blaming the police, and government for his criminal behavior). There wasn't one iota or shred of responsibility on the mothers end, as if she was a model parent, and he was a model child that other children should look to emulate his behavior to ensure they go big places in life. If he did that in Virginia, there would be state police and Fairfax PD on the news, giving the officers an award for ending the criminal behavior.

Why is this important? Well....

Why should Macy's put money and investment into an area that doesn't prosecute those who rob and pillage their stores? Why on Gods green earth, if I was a high end retailer, would I put top merchandise, in an area where the store is going to get hit with takeover robberies, thefts, etc. Why should I have to pay as a retailer for "security" and "extra police" or a combination of both, to stand guard on my property, in my store, etc.... and it more than often still won't prevent something from occurring? Why should I pay more for security costs, to operate in a county where sales are not comparable to say Tysons Corner, and the security is substandard? Even if you try to sit here and say "well it happens in Fairfax too, didn't you see the butt slasher, and the Loudoun Mall asssaulter?" Absolutely. Fairfax, went to the extreme to have that fool extradited from South America to destroy his life in their court system, just to show the region, that they will ruin your existence on this planet, and the taxpayers can have a good laugh as he rots his life away in a Virginia corrections facility. They caught that guy who was assaulting women in the bathroom too every week out in Loudoun, and they are going to ruin his days on this planet as well. My guess is he will get out and go to another jurisdiction to avoid jail time, a place where he can get comfortable and commit assaults, free from the restraints of prosecution. Hmm... I wonder where he might go next when he gets out??? Any guesses!? Hmm I've got a guess! Think about this. Even when criminals are caught in the act, committing crimes, has anyone bothered to ask what the conviction rate is? I've been in PG county courts, and its a joke, as the victim of a crime. I saw the majority of the cases thrown out in there. Thefts, assaults, etc... all dropped, with defendants repeatedly leaving the courtroom smiling! I can't imagine how they go out to celebrate their courtroom victory...

If your going to sit here and say that the things are up to "par" where they should be in the county, consider this. You can go on My Prince Georges County.com and look at the 2015 fiscal budget for police and sheriffs. Now, im not sure that hiring more would help, but, they have NEVER MET THEIR AUTHORIZED STRENGTH! Not once, in the last 10 years! Whats wrong with that picture? So even if we wanted to consider how to bring down "crime" you have to consider that police and sheriffs aren't even at full staffing, nor have they ever been, yet the county continues to grow and expand.

Your thinking.... ok what needs to change?

Well for example, the community attitude towards crime. You cannot sit here, and continue to vote politicians in as a citizen, who allow this to go on. Citizens continue to allow politicians to keep their jobs, election year after election year in the county. Politicians often appoint police chiefs and public safety directors that take a poor approach to dealing with crime. The citizens continue to vote for States Attorneys like Alsobrooks and Jack Johnson, who make their careers prosecuting cops (or trying to) instead of focusing on the offenders destroying the communities. The citizens continue to not question where the "tax money" goes. More and more "revenue" is brought in, from National Harbor, Casino's, taxes on businesses, etc... but no one asks why the roads are run down, the police force is unequipped and understaffed, the fire departments ride around in apparatus that has "Out of service" written on the side or even missing panels- running apparatus out of firehouses that look like they should be condemned, in some cases, the schools often are filled with asbestos, appear run down, and are filled with violent incidents, and the general area is just "unsafe" or has an unsafe feeling? Where are the citizens who are supposed to hold these politicians feets to the fire, and vote them out when the time comes? It simply doesn't happen. And because of that, most citizens outside of the county believe that when they vote for politicians who've orchestrated this mess, allowed criminal behavior, they voted "Yes to CRIME, YES TO ALL OF THIS THATS DESCRIBED ABOVE!" Its like holding a sign up that says "Im from PG and I approve of criminal behavior!" Voting for the same thing over and over, and expecting a different result each time is the definition of insanity. Irregardless of what political party you associate with, if you vote for the same bad agenda, you will get what you deserve, as a citizen. I guess in a county like that, its sad to see nobody runs at least as an independent in elections, and the majority of idiots win their position by default, because no one runs against them. I figured even when Karen Toles was on the news driving like a reckless lawless psycho, and tried to run from police, it was then the citizens would wise up and vote out someone who cannot follow the law yet is in charge of public safety in the county. But I guess I should not be shocked, as citizens regularly approve of criminal politicians there, such as Tiffany Alston (a thief), Jack B. Johnson (a thug and thief, who hated cops), and even Darren Swain a suspected drug dealer. With role models like that running the community, one could only imagine what fine citizens the county will produce, if that is the exemplar behavior.

As a result, no business owner in his right mind, would open up shop in Prince Georges County, Maryland.

Someone asked why the Landover Mall site never got re-developed. Well, because theres garden apartment complexes nearby that are literally rotting cesspools of decay. Quite literally. You can easily go onto youtube and type in "Brightseat Road Murda" and listen to gangsters from the complex rap about killing, hating police and the sort. You can view the video thats shows people hanging out en masse, as if its a nightly ritual. Let me guess, they are "On the path to greatness?" Nobody is going to re develop that plot of land with the rotting septic tank next to it. Your sitting here saying "But its closed down now!" and the answer is.... No, they are opening it back up, and everyone is moving back in, vouchers and all. I hope they name their next music video "Homicide, the sequel to Murda!"

Look at PG Plaza. It struggles to stay open, and im sure the meager sales keep it open barely keeping it out of the red. For good reason too. I watched the "shoe release" at PG Plaza on the news, and there were hundreds of people arguing, fighting, running about the parking lot vandalizing and littering the area. Let me tell you, that doesn't happen at Tysons!

PG's punishment from the area is citizens from outside the area refuse to take their business, their hard earned dollars there, and spend them. Am I going to go drinking at the Boulevard, at some bar where the security deployed OC and security, county, and state police are fighting a crowd of in the words of some "ratchet, unruly, ghetto, thugged out youth" who are drunk, high, and in the process of wrecking the establishment, breaking things, and fighting in the parking lot??!? Gee, I think I'll go party somewhere else after the skins game... its a no brainer! And yea, thats not racist, because lets face it, theres are plenty of bars around the region that are FAR MORE DIVERSE than Largo Towne Center (not very diverse), and have far less problems with crime. Why go enjoy pepper spray and a mug of beer, while having your rims stolen, and about to be robbed at gun point in the parking lot, when you can go elsewhere where that sort of thing doesn't occur daily, monthly, or even rarely?? I saw a news clipping of a Corvette owner in Prince Georges County the other day and his car was ruined, up on blocks. He was "fed up with it, and the second time this has occurred." Did not seem like a happy taxpayer satisfied with the state of his community. I hope he votes accordingly.

Even if the county became better at hiding "incidents" on youtube by using censorship to delete all videos where it portrays the county in a bad light, and the liberal media in the DMV chose to hide the nightly violence/criminal activity that occurs within the county, you still wouldn't be able to hide the citizens opinions. Online bloggers lash out, much like myself at the **** poor job that politicians and county officials do. In this new day and age, despite the fact that they might control "crime numbers" and portray how "crime is down" one can easily speak with people who've been there recently, and experienced crime within Prince Georges County first hand.

If things are to change in Prince Georges County, then the politicians, the leaders, the approach to crime needs to change. If it doesn't, the only thing that Prince Georges County will be known for is a great attraction for criminal enterprise and demonic behavior. Im not going to sit here and argue why it "is the way it is" or speculate if its the lead paint, if its the flouride in the water, if the government smuggled crack cocaine into low income minority areas, or its the fault of the police department or whatever, but at some point, everyone has to admit theres "No more excuses!"

This is why businesses fail in Prince Georges County, and why the rest of the region looks down on the county as a cesspool and run down dump.

I say this because those making the comments are clearly referring to young AA males, as their reasoning for not being perfect. I noticed they swapped out the old navy for a NY & Company. There were no vacant stores at all, and even a small carnival in one of the back parking lots. I had time to sit down at Barnes and Noble and read a bit, was actually really nice. People on this site are doing too much.
Oh the carnival was still there? I thought they were closing up shop for the summer when I saw them two weekends ago.

I also loved that Off Broadway Shoe Store moved closer in near the main core of the town center

BTC still looks as nice as ever IMO, in stark contrast to the BLVD.

Ok, lets not forget that a lot of characters south of the Potomac do not want to see the Maryland suburbs increase Business and Economic Growth on the same level or greater than Northern Virginia....

I agree that BTC is still nice. Of course there will be times when "ratchedness" comes out in force and give the place a bad image but that is EVERY MALL IN THE DMV. Trust me I see them in Tysons Corner too. BTC is well maintained and wayyyy better than the Cap Center at the Boulevard. We have to keep supporting our local malls and demanding the owners maintain and improve them on a regular basis. National Harbor was not supposed to be as successful as it is now according to some but from what Ive seen it is doing even better than expected. It is a prime example that we can have nice things in the county.

We have to keep supporting our local malls and demanding the owners maintain and improve them on a regular basis. National Harbor was not supposed to be as successful as it is now according to some but from what Ive seen it is doing even better than expected. Agreed. And National Harbor is a helluva lot different than it was back in 2008. Back then, I thought it was okay albiet very boring with not much to do for a then-teenager. Now, it's a decently exciting place for adults, teens, and younger kids. This county definitely have what it takes if it continues to play its cards right.

Going during the day is completely different an going at night. Even Bowie Police say there is too much crime in the area. Especially in the apartments and town homes behind the town center. Granted it's not he BLVD but he mall has gone down hill with stores leaving to go to Waugh Chapel and are being filled with less quality stores. I wen into the Americsn Eagle and was asked to check my Footlocker bag? Really?? Robberies are more and more over that way even in Allen pond area.

The stores are also different. Macys and Express at BTC are less quality than Annapolis and Columbia. That sucks that I have to gotta another county to the same store to get better quality and selection.

It's not Baltimore but it's not the same since 2003.
