I assume since it is close to completion that these images are close to what the final view will look like? If so then very impressive. If only the Towers and Shopping Center would eventually redevelop with this kind of density and amenities - I think Terrapin Row adds something like 1,000 more beds than the Knox boxes - redeveloped Towers and Shopping Center could add several thousand more students to the edge of campus and rt1. Would reduce traffic and create more vibrancy to the downturn core. I doubt the Towers will ever change given that they are condos but they will look terrible in comparison to the newly developed apartments.

The Birchmere never materialized in the forever defunct East Campus project. I think this is much better.

The College Park City Council approved an application for $100,000 Tuesday for a potential restaurant and performance venue for students and locals.

According to a memo written by Steve Beavers, College Park’s community development coordinator, The Art House will be a “14,000 square foot, two-story restaurant and performance venue that will provide casual dining areas and multiple performance spaces.”

Kind of sad. They actually show, with pride, footage of tearing down the Little Tavern, to be replaced by an empty lot with "trendy food trucks." Talk about erasing history. It'll be a wonderful place with all the character of Celebration, FL.

You mean erasing history of constant turnover, pest infestation, and 6 - 7 years of vacancy? Yeah. Let's preserve that history.

A little harsh Adelphi but generally true. I sit somewhere in the middle between you two. On one hand I think the planners cannot lose sight of the places and spaces that make CP unique, college-like and create a sense of tradition. On the other hand, vacant buildings aren't worth preserving. I wish the tavern building could have been repurposed - it was a neat little place that stood out - unfortunately it wasn't to be. The space they are creating in its place does nothing for me. Calling it a park is a joke. I think this is a temporary solution until that whole block gets fully redeveloped.

I agree that is a unique building and I'm kinda sad to see it go as well but if it means making room for a new park that people can enjoy I am all for it! There are plenty of other dilapidated unique old buildings littered up and down route 1.

The only thing I remember about Little Tavern is decades ago, sitting at the counter drunk with my college friends and ordering those tiny burgers they now call, Sliders.....I will miss those places, too bad they didnt save the building. There is one in Bethesda which is now a chinese restaurant. Well, I think its still there.

That was the intent. The new town hall development will take over the block. I'm not against preserving neighborhood history. For some, the building may have held historical significance. For others, mostly new students and visitors, it was an eyesore.

If it held some historical significance other than just existing, then perhaps one could argue for its preservation.

Why was there no campus rally in years past to save the structure by housing a startup student-run business? Obviously the university and city never felt that it held any significance as they let it sit vacant for a decade without figuring out a use for it. Judging from the following web site, it wasn't unique either. That also takes away from its significance. Apparently they were all over the DC area.

Other Little Taverns received the same fate. Though some survived.
