If they need more room for trendy food trucks, they can bulldoze the Rossborough Inn. Just another obsolete roadside eatery. No one rides horses to Baltimore any more.

They were going to put the hotel on that side at one time and leave the current site for the defunct East Campus plans.

At Wallace Loh's State of the Campus address, Ken Ulman gave a 15+minute presentation on the economic development in and around campus. I don't think there is much new here but I have to give this guy credit - he is passionate and excited about the future of College Park. Check it out starting at about the 7 minute mark:

I must say I'm impressed. Thanks for sharing. I had no idea we had so many startups located in College Park. I think they are on a good track to keep the companies there. Also, I like the look of the Brendan Iribe building. I'm glad they put it on Baltimore Avenue and not hidden deep inside the campus.

It is refreshing that there will be some buildings with character on campus now. The plain jane red brick colonial style architecture can get nauseating and makes it easy to get lost on campus with nothing standing out as a landmark.

University of Maryland eyes new fundraising record for big innovation plans. I'm telling people, get in on the ground floor. I think Loh can achieve it.

Quote:
The University of Maryland has quietly started its next capital fundraising campaign with an eye on raising more than $1 billion.
In a wide-ranging conversation with the Washington Business Journal, President Wallace Loh said he hopes to build on his recent success, raising more than the record-setting multiyear "Great Expectations" campaign in the next three years. The campaign is in a quiet phase and won't be officially launched until at least half of the goal is raised.

The New Hotel at College Park has already received advanced bookings for weddings and conventions. This is good news and is the same thing that happened before the Gaylord opened at National Harbor. There is already interest. RT. 1 in College Park was in serious need for a reputable convention hotel.

Again, I think there is still need for more good hotels that should replace the rest of the inns along Rt. 1.

Let's not forget about Mt Rainier MD getting nice new digs on the DC border.

Quote:
Mount Rainier, MD – Prince George’s County officials and local leaders from the City of Mount Rainier will be gathering on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at 10:30 am, with development partners Neighborhood Development Company and Streetsense to celebrate the demolition of the existing structure to make way for a $50 million mixed-use project at the Gateway to the City and the County. The Mount Rainier Gateway Project is now underway both officially and physically—marking the first phase of a mixed-use development that will anchor the City and County on the border with the District of Columbia.
Expected construction start in summer of 2016.
