A few here in Charles County too.

The 7,500 FBI HQ employees aren't all Special Agents. I wouldn't be surprised if administative jobs (e.g., Human Resources and IT) comprise a large chunk of the HQ staff. Many of these employees probably live in PG County and would benefit from a HQ move to Greenbelt. Otoh, the enforcement rank-and-file most likely live in NoVa, where they are closer to Quantico and would prefer a Springfield office.

In any case, I think the transformative benefits of a FBI move to Greenbelt is vastly overstated. As you provided, not many enforcement personnel are going to move to PG County. With telework and work-related travel, no one, other than upper management and administrative staff, will be in the office. And the FBI will provide its employees a cafeteria serving breakfast and lunch that will be substantially better in taste and variety than any fast food or restaurant that Greenbelt has to offer.

You are correct, Wray even said that a few days ago.

Seeing as there is no new updates since November, I think the Virginia folks did their due diligence and made it "seem" like they were fighting FOR their citizens by raising a stink.

We are now in an election year with the possibility of an indicted and impeached presidential candidate taking up the news cycle. Perfect cover for Virginia to go quietly into that goodnight and accept the Greenbelt win.

Hopefully now we can start and see updated renderings of the new facility and news about construction this year.

No one should think that Virginia's "given up". The process has now moved to the cloak rooms, the clubs and the dinner parties.

Steny announced his intent to file for reelection a few days ago. He promised to "fight for the FBI HQ and continue to save the Base". The last is somewhat of a local joke down here.
