I like to come up with new lines for the metro as a hobby and I was looking at this site at the old Cabin John railway,
Follow the purple line......it goes from Glen Echo to Georgetown.
Bicycle Path - Cabin John Trolley Route at Bikely.com
Now I am not sure how much of that trail is still big enough to hold a metro, but my guess is most of it.
Now lets expand this idea:
From Georgetown at the end of that purple line, you could go undeground for a mile till it hits Foggy Bottom Metro (Which I am guess is 2 miles tops)
Now here is the interesting part.
On the other end, the purple line on that link above ends at Glen Echo.
But if you notice, its not that far from the Cabin John Parkway.
You could extend the line north till it hits the 495.
That line, which I am proposing, would start near the Cabin John Parkway and go all the way to dc......that would be impressive.
And I bet it wouldn't cost that much to acquire land.
I am guessing 2-5 billion for the line.
I know, its about getting the money, but I am curious how feasible that route is?
I think it would serve enough people and the fact it would go through Georgetown would make that route quite interesting.
Thoughts?
