I had to pick up a relative at Union Station today at 4:30. I brought my young son and he wanted to see the train pull in. So I avoided the circle and luckily found one metered spot open on N Capitol. I parallel parked, paid the meter, and we went in. 30 minutes later, out we come and I see a ticket on the windshield. I thought I hadn't put enough in the meter, but when I glanced at the ticket, it was for $100! OUCH. I looked around and realized I had completely missed the sign saying no parking between 4-6:30. The lane obviously turns from parking into a travel lane for rush hour. Wow. What a costly ooops!
Looking around, I see every car on both sides of the street had a ticket. It's about 5 o clock by now. We must have totally made the parking enforcer's day. In fact, while we loaded up, I stopped two cars from parking behind me and making the same error.
So, finally my question. I know I was in the wrong. I missed the sign. I also forgot it was a weekday, as I'd never normally be in the city at rush hour on a Friday! By my recollection, this is maybe my second parking ticket EVER-I am a serious rule person. Do I have any chance of fighting it and getting it reduced? With it being the Friday after Thanksgiving?
Any advice?
Thanks!
I don't know, honesty? I missed the sign, it was a pseudo-holiday with zero traffic, and obviously between 10-20 other cars made the same wrong call. I have a spotless record. People get speeding tickets reduced, why not parking?
Just out of curiosity, does the rule apply during a holiday if the holiday falls on a M-F? For example, were they ticketing on Thanksgiving?
It does beg the question, why is it easier/more acceptable to get a speeding ticket reduced? Clearly a person knows they're the breaking the law then...
When I'm president, there will be mandatory executions for parking violations and those with Maryland plates. Fortunately, those are normally the same people.

Can we get you to blow the bridges between DC and Virginia, Mr. President?
Ha, I did the same. Parked behind a 18 wheeler's trailer (JUST the trailer) so I figured that wasn't going anywhere so I must be okay. Nope. $100 ticket.
I guess consider yourself lucky you weren't towed.
