So you don't understand that your belief that the mayor should stop gentrification would require liberal/possibly socialist measures? Stopping/halting gentrification would require laws for rent control, affordable housing requirements for developers, an expansion of public housing and outright forbidding sales to high end developers. Explain to me the alternative candidate you support who will do all these things as opposed to Ms. Bowser.

I chose to refer you to the source. It's the way it works with me.

Don't you think it is highly unlikely that most of the voters in DC are going to change party affiliation and vote for an independent?

Come on, man. Be realistic already.

To my knowledge, no party affiliation change is necessary to vote for an independent.

You didn't refer me to the source. You referred me to a newspaper. The newspaper did not conduct the poll. You fail. Miserably.

Generally I don't think it's unlikely for voters registered as Democrats in DC to vote for an independent.

DC has closed primaries, so someone registered as a non-democrat cannot participate in the Democratic primary - usually the only election that matters. So the Democratic rolls in DC contain more people who do not identify with the Democratic party than it would if there was an open primary process.

Quite frankly, it's a little surprising that nearly 17% of the District is registered with no party affiliation.

I think the right independent candidate could definitely win the Mayoral race in DC, but Catania isn't that candidate. I'm expecting the lowest voter turnout in a long time, percentage-wise. That might help Catania a little, but not enough.

The relative silence on this thread speaks volumes. Muriel Bowser is uninspiring, unsuited, outmoded, and frankly the crappiest Democratic candidate since Home Rule. Even corrupt Vince Gray brings more to the office than this empty dress. It's mind-boggling that the seat of power in this country is so alarmingly apathetic.

Elections have consequences. Never forget that.

Go post about elections where you live. Whom we elect in the District is our business. And it will be Muriel.
