I thought Metro did not shutdown in 2010. It just ran underground. That's what I remember. The first thought I had when it shut down this time was that they just hired a new GM.

It didn't shutdown. Sandy was the only time Metro completely shutdown prior to this blizzard.

Thank you for that. They did not run above ground in 2010, though, except in a few places.

once again i see people overexaggerating in a true CD fashion.......DC's metro is not bad at all. Theres always room for improvement but I think for the most part the system works consistently.

Things id change:
- Higher density railcars
- railcars without carpets (common sense says that makes the trains easier to keep clean)
- a one fare system (or at least do zones like they do in London)

Im gonna be blunt about something else......I really wonder if certain people would be so quick to say "fire the current staff" and "its become a jobs program" if the metro employees werent mostly black people....respond how u want but i see through coded racist language yall aint slick.....

It's better than most in the US in my opinion, except they need to change the policy back to make it so that students can ride the bus for free and not the metro.

Yes, I cannot say this enough: NO ONE in the world thinks their transit system is good enough. Londoners think the Underground sucks. A lot of New Yorkers think the Subway can be improved. Bostoners complain about the T. You're naïve if you think this is unique to DC.

I rode last weekend while they were single tracking while doing maintenance. What a nightmare that was. It took over an hour to get from the convention center to my friend's stop in courthouse. People were getting off and finding a different way of getting back.

Metro has already discontinued carpet on their rail cars. All the newest rail cars produced after 2008 don't have carpet.

As far as cost goes. What I think Metro should do is charge a NYC flat rate within the city limits and charge for distance if you are traveling beyond the city limits (or if you are coming into the city limits from outside). I think most people would find it to be a fair policy. After all, metro acts like a subway inside the city and a commuter rail outside the city.

Your race comment is silly. MTA in NYC has a mix of racial groups working for it and I have seen people on the NYC forum call it a "jobs program" too. Stop looking for racism everywhere and focus more on the logic behind people's arguments.

This is somewhat similar to the zone suggestion i made

Using the New York forum is not a good example to make your point. The extremists and retards I run into and regularly curse at over there makes this forum look like a hippie commune. the MTA in New York has a lot of people of color working for it too, theres just alot more hispanic and a growing number of asian (esp indian and bangladeshi) workers.
